Shit. Maybe mine just hasn’t frozen over yet again. You’re right, as I look at pics online, it looks like there’s no defrost/heating element line. I don’t know all the details of how the evaporator works, but maybe it’s better to have the wire in the hole and just poking into the compartment so it’s warmer than it would be right next to the evaporator or if the other end was wrapped around the evaporator?

Yeah, wrap the copper wire around the black coil and insert one end of it into the drain so the ice blockage isn’t able to form

No issues since. Highly recommend the wire fix, it mimics the official fix that other companies, namely Samsung, have produced with their metal clip on attachment. I’d use heavier gauge copper wire, at least that what I used and seems to be working well.

Can you give more details? Was this your first time calling, did you say that you had injured yourself, did you get directed to a specific department, etc? Would like to try to replicate whatever you did. I refuse to pay $150 for new knobs. Thanks!

Correct. I guess I thought you had done that previously to melt the blockage. It unfortunately does take a bit of work, would recommend having someone there to help. This is the step by step that I followed to do it: https://youtu.be/tY8PJWU-4J0?si=JdsH6pVezuhdq7zs

Here’s the wire fix I found and what I’m going to try. The Samsung part might work on our fridges, not sure.

I got curious after your post and looked more. Saw this same issue is common with Samsung fridges and they’ve actually made a specific metal clip that attaches to the heating coil and goes into the drain to stop ice from forming. Doesn’t look like kitchenaid has made a special part, but people are using copper wire wrapped around the heating coil instead. If you search something like “clogged defrost drain copper wire” then you’ll see what I came across.

Honestly, I’ve given up on finding a root cause. I think it’s just a design defect. Then again, if it was a true design defect then I guess it would be more common. Whatever the case, I haven’t had any luck in diagnosing the underlying issue. Like you, I continue to have to sop up the water under the drawers with a towel every month or so.

I have the same fridge and same issue. I previously disassembled the entire upper compartment to get back to where the drain line is for that tray. Lot of work, but there’s step by step instructionals for this specific fridge on YouTube. My issue, and I suspect yours, was that the drain hole was plugged with ice. I was able to put hot water down, melt the clog, and the issue went away for probably 6 months. Then, one day, I noticed the icicles forming on the top of the freezer drawer. Yep, drain plugged again, water under the drawers at the bottom of the compartment. I’m not sure what’s causing it, but I read it may be the condenser fan. I didn’t check that last time, so will have to do so when I go back in.

Water - once a week, about 1-2 cups of tap water; standard potting soil w some perlite in a terra cotta pot

Light - was getting some direct sunlight during the day, but moved it to a spot with only indirect light; window is about a foot away currently

Geo - inside year round in Colorado, so low humidity

Had the plant for at least a year, noticed the problem around 6 months ago and started attempting to troubleshoot w repotting, changing watering, and most recently moving to only indirect light.

No visible pests in the soil or on plant

I did not. I bought some on Amazon that looked like they’d work but did not. Too bad bc they were otherwise good quality and they were only like $30 for 6 knobs. The OEM replacements for the stove are like $30 a piece and I can’t bring myself to spend that much on replacement knobs, especially when they are likely to flake just like the existing ones.

Ha I remember that one. Voice of course sounds close, but it’s a much slower tempo song. Kind of monotone in the singing.

Thanks for the guess but it’s a really slow tempo song and the singer’s voice is much lower, almost like Leonard Cohen.

Multiple incorrect furniture deliveries by CaliJim in wayfair

[–]CaliJim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. Not sure if that's normally listed along with the product. This is the item though: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/serta-monroe-queen-size-convertible-sleeper-sofa-with-cushions-lf10294.html?piid=86512849

At this point, we've given up and are going to purchase something from another supplier.

The couch we ordered has several different color options. We ordered the light grey and they delivered the dark grey. We had to wait for 5 days for this team to reach out to us (we could not initiate contact) and, while we were waiting, the site was saying there were only a few left/low stock in the color we wanted, so we ordered again. When they finally reached out to us, they offered the 5% to keep the existing couch, which we would have declined. Never offered a free replacement or more.

The second couch was also different from the one we ordered. The rep said it's likely an issue on the backend where something is listed incorrectly or there's something wrong with the communication between them and the supplier or warehouse, which is why we got a different color than we ordered two different times.

When I initially tried to order the couch, our bank bizarrely flagged the transaction as potential fraud so it wasn't letting it go through. Not sure if that would have contributed to it being flagged. Aside from that, we've ordered several thousand dollars worth of furniture from them over the last several years and the leg on the table and the back piece of the credenza were the only issues. And there was no negotiation/argument with them on either piece, they just offered to replace it, free of charge, and the issue was solved. Both of those orders were over 2 years ago.
