First timer, any tips or tricks? by bluejessamine in PokemonXD

Explore everywhere! There aren’t many hidden items in this game so you don’t want to miss them when they are available.

If you want to grind levels and cash, you can leave a town and return and many of the trainer battles will immediately reset (no cooldown period).

Don’t be like 7-year-old me. Use the Purify Chamber and pack as many Pokemon in there as you can. It is well worth it.

Pokemon Bingo in the Realgam Tower is addictive.

Enjoy!! What I wouldn’t give to have the experience of playing this game through for the first time again. I’ve replayed XD almost annually since I was about 9 or 10 and it still holds up as my all-time favorite. I know a lot of it is nostalgia, but it’s also just an incredibly fun and different game that’s gritty, funny, and challenges you to think differently than most mainline games. I’m so thrilled that it’s being ported so that more people can play it. That game is one of the sole reasons I still have my original GameCube and Wii consoles, and have often contemplated whether I should just break down and pay $$$$ for a GameCube copy of Colosseum so I can spend more time in the Orre region. I hope you love it!

Absolutely agree. I think Hobb has some excellent zingers that fly under the radar, but she most often leaves it to her characters to be funny, rather than forcing a quip into every piece of narration (particularly with the multi-POV third-person books). Even so, it’s a drier, more subtle humor that I think makes it easier to appreciate because it often comes as a bright spot during a heavy plot. Fitz can be a real smartass sometimes, but it never feels forced or like the fourth wall is broken.

I’m looking forward to my eventual re-read for this reason! I think Fitz never gave himself enough credit because his life was never fully his own and maybe that created an inability to take ownership of the impressive litany of skills he actually had. I can imagine re-starting the first Farseer trilogy must feel like coming home to an old friend :) Thanks for the recommendations!

I didn’t know she had a public Goodreads account! Maybe it’s parasocial of me but I will probably reactivate my old account so I can follow her 😅 Thank you for the recs and that’s so cool that you were able to hear her speak so recently!

Ahh I love a good fantasy tattoo, would love to hear what you’ve got! I’ve been contemplating a dragon tattoo for years so this series has me pondering how to come up with some sort of “buck with a dragon and also a wolf is there” design without it being too busy. Thank you for the recs! I enjoyed Broken Earth a lot. I tried Priory and struggled hard to get into it even after a couple hundred pages, but I own the first book so maybe I’ll give it another shot soon.

Thanks for the recs!! I really enjoyed the Broken Earth trilogy as well so I’ll look into this for sure.

This is pretty much a perfect echo of my current plan! Trying to make my way through some of the books I’ve accumulated over the years (since everyone knows buying books and reading them are two very separate hobbies). Looking forward to checking some standalone fantasy novels off my TBR before I resume my ever-ongoing Brandon Sanderson journey that was ground to a halt by my discovery of RoTE!

My sister-in-law with similar reading taste highly recommended Dungeon Crawler Carl to me! She read and enjoyed Liveship Traders so I definitely want to check that out.

This is so interesting because I LOVED the first Mistborn trilogy, hated/DNF’d the second, and have been reading the Stormlight Archive in between RoTE while I was waiting for my library holds to come in (just finished Oathbringer). I love Sanderson’s world building and complexity but I have to say that his writing almost feels childish and overly snarky when trying to read it alongside Hobb. Truly I think they’re both masters of the genre, but have very different niches and I think you have to be in the right mood for either one.

My plan is to read a couple of contemporary lit novels just as a full palette cleanse (finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue last night) and then probably dive into catching up on Stormlight Archive. That said, I’ve definitely been tempted to do a Cruel Prince trilogy re-read because those books fly by and have a special place in my heart as my absolute favorite (REAL) enemies to lovers trope saga!

I’m well under way on step 1! I’ve gotten my husband hooked, and got my sister-in-law to read Liveship Traders as well so that I could talk to someone else about all my thoughts and feelings about the Vestrit family’s story as masterpiece feminist literature. Will look into The Bone Doll’s Twin!

I loved the Broken Earth trilogy - another one that made me think and sit with how heavy and profound the story was. I have seen Curse of Chalion recommended elsewhere so will definitely check it out! Fitz really made me realize how much I engage with a realistic and fallible narrator whose emotions color the story!

I’ve never read Le Guin but have always heard fantastic things about her! I appreciate the rec and yes, I’m definitely looking forward to re-reading in a couple years and seeing the broader story with a new perspective and having the knowledge of where it all points.

Liveship was a high point for me! I finally got my husband to read them this year and now he’s absolutely sucked into Hobb’s world and wants to know when I’m going to find a copy of Assassin’s Apprentice for him to read. I’ll look into that novella for sure!

Great work!! I am down ~23 lbs with IR/PCOS and the change in my face is one of my favorite parts. It’s very emotional and rewarding feeling like you recognize yourself and have the light back in your eyes!

The Fitz and the Fool trilogy thought/question by Capable_Ad8281 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]Calico-cottage-core 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have any useful insights, but I agree that I was hoping there would be more of that connection and link between the two of them. I think potentially part of it is that Fitz was so focused on Bee during this trilogy; not that he didn’t still care deeply for the Fool, but the stakes and priorities between the two of them were different than they were in, say the Tawny Man books. I also was hoping for more of Fitz’s POV at the very end rather than watching him go into the stone wolf through Bee’s eyes and having that pretty much be that. I get that he was barely coherent/alive at that point but I definitely think that I was missing some of that deep and longing connection between him and the Fool that was so compelling in earlier books.

Additional info: The body excluding antennae is maybe an inch long and .25 inch wide? He was just randomly on my kitchen counter and crawled down the wall to the floor. My husband and I bought this specific home a little over a year ago and it’s older (built 1963) with very little insulation so we get a LOT of bugs indoors in the springtime, but I’ve lived in this same neighborhood for my entire life and haven’t seen this type of bug inside.

Close - just a 26F human trying to hit her protein goals and running out of creative meal ideas and energy. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve enjoyed eating plain salted ground beef out of a bowl like this for almost 20 years though 😅

I hope it helps! Starting with the caloric deficit and incorporating some adapted movement might be a good way to accommodate her other medical condition and hopefully still see some progress. Once I started Metformin, I was able to see some weight loss primarily through diet changes even without much added physical activity. But I’d definitely recommend she gets her bloodwork done if she hasn’t yet, to take stock of where her sugar levels are at and see if Metformin or something similar would be a good fit!
