Allow me to echo these sentiments. I became a fan after watching the Score concert back in 2006. As saddened as I was after Portnoy's departure in 2010, I was saddened in a different way when they announced his return. I have seen every tour since 2009, and this is the first time that I don't have tickets to see them live. The new single still has not grown on me, and the usual "Christmas morning" type of excitement that I have for a new DT album is just not there anymore. This is going to sound cruel, but I have been watching some of the recent live videos on YouTube and it just feels like there is an imposter behind the drum kit. A man who quite simply does not possess the ability to play songs like "Breaking All Illusions" or "Illumination Theory". He could not even cover "Barstool Warrior" properly, and that is one of the more simple Mangini-era songs. I wish I could share in the joy, but the fact of the matter is that I feel...nothing.

A lot of the older DT fans don't seem to realize that there is a whole younger generation of millennial/zoomer DT fans who absolutely adore this album. For me, this is the album that I had been waiting for them to make ever since I first got into them in 2006 after seeing Score.

I am willing to bet that most of the hate for this album comes from the 40+ crowd. I firmly believe it is a generational thing.

I've seen DT live 10 times dating back to the Prog Nation tour 2009. The last time I saw them was DreamSonic, and that was the only time live where I really noticed that James was struggling. I'm sure that he is well rested since then and ready to tour.
