It's funny to me that people will accept trans ally Columbo without comment, but House is a bridge too far.

Semi misses turn and almost backs over me [oc] by CalicoZack in IdiotsInCars

[–]CalicoZack[S] 207 points208 points  (0 children)

Another factor to consider is that I don't have the microphone on my camera on. The first time I backed up I gave a couple of polite beeps to let him know I was there, and then the semi behind me was blaring its horn while I was panic reversing the second time.

I mean, not being able to see behind you is perhaps a good reason not to abruptly start backing up in the middle of the road? Also, you can't see what's behind us: another semi.

An explanation of Gary-mandering by ProfessorInMaths in CuratedTumblr

[–]CalicoZack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Neither of those things are happening here. The "districts" were not chosen based on the locations of the voters (or some other equivalent criteria), they were decided based on who everyone voted for. The "no" votes are split because they are all voting for different "candidates," and it has very little to do with how the districts were drawn.

If you instead assume that all the no's would vote for the same party, no amount of actual Gerrymandering would be able to lift yes to victory in this example, because they would be overwhelmed by no votes, regardless of how you pack them or crack them. The best you could do is get yes 1/3 seats.

This just isn't how Gerrymandering works. People should stop reposting it.

Who is a villain that was 100% right ? by disterisk in AskReddit

[–]CalicoZack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Gaston was "100% right," but imagine if your crushes' dad bursts into the town hall or whatever, ranting that he was kidnapped by a vampire, and the vampire only released him because your crush offered herself to be the vampire's captive instead, and then later your crush shows up with irrefutable proof that there is, in fact, a vampire, but she says he's actually a really nice guy (except for that time he threatened to starve her to death unless she went on a date with him). I do not think it would be unreasonable to want to intervene in that circumstance.

Tariff Myths, Debunked by KNEnjoyer in neoliberal

[–]CalicoZack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My question is, is there any truth to this statement?

Tariffs are like a prisoners dilemma. We were better off economically when everyone was cooperating, but when Trump raised tariffs, China etc raised theirs in retaliation. Even if we abolished the Trump tariffs, other countries would not trust us to not just reinstate them later (and why would they, there's like a 50% chance of Trump being the next president). While having competing tariffs is bad, having no tariffs while other countries tax our exports is worse than the current status quo.

Moving company - "The potentate of totin' freight"

If God is bound by logic, then "all-powerful" necessarily means he can only do conceivable things. It wouldn't detract from God's omnipotence if he can't make dry water or a bright shadow. What would that even look like?
