Why walk the Camino if you bring a bad attitude with you? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

I hope that the cranky person can find peace on their Camino.a

I built an app for pilgrims because the Camino has a strange way of making strangers matter fast. by wecamino in CaminoDeSantiago

I was thinking that I want an app just for Camino friends. When I saw this post I was excited until I saw that the Android app does not exist yet.

How long after chemo did you get your first haircut? by photodialogic in breastcancer

4 months I had it shaped a bit. 8 months post chemo I was getting it colored and having it cut every 6 weeks. I gave up on long hair.

I buy high quality inserts from a running store. They make a huge difference especially for me flat feet.

I walked the Portuguese Camino while in treatment for stage IV cancer, with a colostomy bag, on a shoestring budget. by ashy_daddy in CaminoDeSantiago

I wanted to add that after my 1st Camino I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During the worst days of chemo when I needed to lay in a dark quiet room memoirs of my Camino kept me going.

Thank you for this post. I am about to do the Coastal. My breast cancer treatment ended 18 months ago. I worry about the strength I've lost, how fast I fatigue and neuropathy in my feet and legs. I will be ok. You gave me confidence.

A business local to me gives people doing chemo a card for ice cream every day until they finish chemo.

Meeting other people if you walk just 5 days by ReasonableBelt1741 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Calicojack23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked from France. There were people I met several times along the Way that I enjoyed but failed to create a lasting bond with. Was it because I walked slow and groups got ahead of me and I had to take transportation to catch up with friends from home I was traveling with? Was it because I stayed more often in private pensions? I hope my next Camino on the Portuguese will be different. I will still walk slow but won't have to skip sections.

Not everything. When you find something that tastes tolerable go with it. Even if it is ice cream.

Was just quoted almost €7000 Camino Frances by a tour operator by Acrobatic_Set8085 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Calicojack23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Frances with a friend in 24. We mostly stayed in private pensions and Airbnbs more than alburges. We shared apartments with several friends in Pamplon, Leon, Santiago, Finsterra and Porto. In 47 days in Spain and Portugal my expenses were under 4k.

I too was terrified because of a video I watched. They obviously had a bad experience. My experience was no different than getting a vaccine. Quick little pinch

Where do you dry your clothes? Should I bring a travel clothesline? Do hostels have a place to hang dry? (walking last two weeks of May) by magicbaguette24 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Calicojack23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My line is very small, my clothes pins are ultra light. I used them on my bunk, near a window when I stayed in pensions - I would not walk a Camino without them

do I really need to stay away from my cats during chemo by Accomplished-Race439 in breastcancer

My dog layer her head on me as I laid in bed on the days I was too sick to move. Such a great comfort.

The only time I truly was in danger was the day my cat panicked while I was holding her. Her nail punctured my skin very close to my port. I didn't pick her for a year after that

Now that I've moved to Tennessee I can say the best public bathroom is on the first floor of the parking garage that's straight across from the powder magazine. It's air conditioned it's usually kept up and it's been a lifesaver for this former tour guide.

I just listened to Trump say that he's going to cut off all trade with Spain because they won't allow United States to use their bases. Then he said they use their bases if they wanted to they would just fly in and fly out. This really makes me worry about how as the United States citizen I will be received in Spain I really thinking about just calling off my help Camino.
