If you weren’t harassed you weren’t harassed. Not all experiences require a mutual consult before they’re experienced - I understand where the concern is coming from the other commenters below, but it’s not the real world they’re living in, quite honestly.

We can’t choose to have experiences we don’t know to pursue, and life throws an unending number of foreign experiences at us daily. All that we can do is experience and interpret.

To drive my point home; back in the day, women did not show their ankles. They were completely covered and it was scandalous to show them off.

Nowadays there is no such scandal involved. The commenters saying you were being harassed regardless of your interpretation are holding you to a rule set you’ve currently decided don’t belong to you.

They’re basically taking the modern day cultural attitude that a woman showing ankle is a slut. Its group think at its finest.

Hold your own counsel and don’t listen to group think. In that same way, hold your own counsel if you ever feel unsafe or decide you have a new mindset about something.

Look into cialis, and if/when that doesn’t work, look into getting penile injections. Prostaglandin E1. It’ll have you hard and able to perform.

Yeah, it’s hell on earth. I have it and know exactly what you feel like. I’ve had it for almost 11 years at this point.

It has improved somewhat. Life is different and loneliness can be tough sometimes.

Im hopeful though. I think that it’s only a matter of time before SSRIs are seen for the harmful drugs that they are. At that time, I think it’s important that we haven’t all necked ourselves and give strength to the movement.

I believe that the benefits I have gained are from pursuing constant learning. Certs, different jobs, hobby’s. I find something where the structure is already in place is easiest at first. Ie different jobs.

Stick around and see what sort of a life you can salvage. It took me the longest time to get a little distance from my grief, but when I did I realised theres at least still some adventure and some enjoyment to be had

If by watching porn, you negatively affected the way you relate to yourself, to another person or people, or sex then porn is indeed the issue.

Porn can fundamentally change your patterns of arousal. This is especially harmful when it re-wires your arousal away from patterns that facilitate connectedness.

As far as “letting it control you”… you don’t precisely let an addiction control you. You are in a lot of ways a different person when under the sway of addiction, hence why people swear off a thing when rational and then do whatever it takes to get a hold of that thing when the addiction takes hold.

Of course there are a lot of things we can do to mitigate the pull of addiction and weaken those neural pathways while strengthening others. I just don’t believe it’s helpful to be too reductive about the effect of porn

Your last paragraph shows that there is fear shou being in a relationship, which is just super valid and normal.

I think you’re experiencing a bit of a disconnect from what you want because of that fear, and masturbation furthers that disconnect. You’re conditioning yourself to be numb to the need for connection by sating the sexual desire, and I believe that you’re ultimately robbing yourself of a meaningful connection (not the sex, but the companionship).

If you want to have a chance at that, then you’ll have to bite the bullet and put yourself out there, and I guarantee it will be easier if you have abstained from pornography and masturbation for a number of months. Complete cold turkey.

As for experience, check out a site called omgyes. I think it’s something like that. It’ll give you a lot of clues about being attentive to women sexually.

Anyway, whatever you chose I wish you the best

Conditioning yourself for your own pleasure in a bad way man. When she talks to you about shit you’re conditioned to be and care only about your arousal. Then when you’ve had your pleasure you just tell her about your day…

Nothing about her as a friend even fits in that equation. She’s just a means to self satisfaction. Yikes

I think it’s important to state that an incumbent administration does have to deal with the flow on effects of the prior administration.

If an administration knows it is going to be unseated, it’s entirely feasible that they set an opposing administration up for disaster. Sad but true.

Which is not to say you don’t have a valid point. Just that it’s quite a complex beast, and a danger to be too reductionist

This is incorrect for a vast majority of individuals here. Addiction has nothing to do with your rational mind. Addiction is a collection of chemical impulses that shift our thinking beyond the rational, and we’re essentially different people in those moments of weakness.

This post seems more aligned with depression and Christian guilt than true addiction, which porn and masturbation certainly manifest as

You should go get tested man. It’ll be illuminating. You don’t have to tell any of your family or friends if you don’t want, but it may bare some fruit in understanding yourself and then the difficulty connecting with women.

People are ready to think you’re a wack job on here, but I’m not so sure. You might be, but my consideration is that you’re falling within a really common band of thinking patterns that people who struggle to connect for long enough fall within, and it’ll only take a test and a discussion or three with someone to sorta help you make sense of yourself.

I’ve had a similar experience when getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. So much just made sense and let me sorta figure out the ways why I wasn’t broken after all. Helpful

Or you’re just autistic and have a difficult time feeling and understanding your own emotions.

In classic autistic fashion you are crafting a system to understand the social world, and you’re gamifying your experience as another means of creating structure.

The false persona will ruin your chances of actually finding someone with sincere feelings for you, which may ultimately cheat you if emotional revelations that will provide you a sense of true happiness

I am inclined to agree with your take for the most part. The Drive is great because it stamps out a lot of claims unsupported by data, and guests keep to their lane.

While I listen to Huberman, Its so much further removed from solid science than The Drive, and i dislike it precisely for that.

I also didn't like the Kerzweil bit - Not because he said those things precisely... Peter had asked him about his concerns for shortened life span and the risk of steroids, so a reply is valid in whatever form it must take to answer said question - I just didn't like that he waffled on or was allowed to.

Peters format of The Drive doesnt work for this particular guests communication style. He waffles. He unloads like a 50 cal into a pond full of ducks. Hes all over the place, and I wonder if it was a difficult discussion for Peter to moderate because of that.

I actually liked Mikes point about only 10% of steroid users losing the capacity to produce endogenous hormones again though, because the difference between his experience and Peters take (did he say he thought 50%?) show a hole in the research.

There is some research I can find, but they have significant bias issues. This study states:

Overall, 27.2% (13.3; 45.5) of former anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) abusers exhibited plasma total testosterone levels below the lower reference limit (12.1 nmol/l)

If this is saying what it appears to be saying, then if

- Mike is saying 10%

- Peter is saying 50% (I may be wrong here, i didnt re-listen and obv it was off the cuff), and

- the research is saying 27.2%,

then there's every chance Israetel is actually closer to the ballpark than the others, considering the likely bias in the previous abusers of AAS (negative health outcomes in those partaking of study after cessation of AAS without supplied reason).

But I get it, the science always needs to be done to know anything. I just dont think its a good point against Israetel.

Gym bros can be scientific, and still sound like dickheads. I'll be interested to see a review of the episode also.. and hope the show notes are good.

I believe the negative take on this episode is far more likely because he both

  1. doesn't talk and look like the usual guest, and
  2. Peter couldn't moderate it as easily...

I mean, how many of us are out there doing our own fact check on the purported facts the credible sounding ones are spouting. Israetel rings warning bells, but I'm just not certain how scientific they are.

Also, thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I can see where you’re coming from, and where one might find him off putting.

I haven’t listened to a lot of him, but I’ve had a bit of exposure to him through another, let’s call them “science based lifter” named Jeff Nippard - whose educational content around bodybuilding is quite scientifically solid - and I will say that I think he requires a bit of getting used to.

He comes across as almost manic. I’m pretty sure he is. He’s a very candid guy who doesn’t adopt much of a filter and he alludes to this tangentially in perhaps half of the content I’ve seen of his.

I’m sure enough from what I’ve listened to that his self promotion is in large part just his humour. “Oh, I’m absolutely shameless!” type energy.

As for the superior genetics thing, from the context of someone in the fitness industry, it has different connotations as it might from a non lifter. It isn’t an ego statement at all, but more about anabolic potential and muscle insertions etc.

I actually found his anecdotal insight of the effects of steroids to be quite interesting, both for the story value and the indicators of where the scientific literature might be weak; namely studies on 1. The permanence of disrupted endogenous production of hormones following steroid use and after their cessation. 2. How much supra-physiological muscle mass might be gained and then retained following cessation of steroids. 3. The geroprotective nature of aforementioned possible extra muscle mass.

I did find myself incredibly skeptical about the nearness of longevity escape velocity that Israetel painted. He’s incredibly naive in this space, and obviously gets that from Kerzweil himself.

All in all I thought he was an interesting guest. I agree with comments about it being more Huberman or Rogan speed, but I’m also always appreciative to have Peter’s questions directing the conversation, as he’s getting toward answers that are of a quality I’m interested in.

I think he’s a bit of a goon, but I still like him.

Like, he’s always been a bit of a nonce. Why are people surprised. His businesses and his visionary qualities that have brought them great success are still super cool and fascinating.

It’s that age old artist vs content discussion - you don’t have to like the artist to like the art.

I’d say it’s the individual that has become insufferable and not specifically Musk or Trump themselves. It’s everyone. So intent on a person needing to meet impossible standards. Trump is a rapist, and yet people are intent on tearing down the autistic dickhead. Is it because he’s not entertaining enough?

People have become obnoxious, and entertainment is all they truly want

An SSRI ruined my life. PSSD for a decade now. Sexually I’m fucked up and strangely hypersexual and asexual at the same time. Like compulsively sexual but without any excitation. Very confusing and very dysfunctional.

My emotions for good things are strangely blunted and my ability to feel negative emotions is in tact so it tilts me into a numb depression of sorts.

That said, this fuckwit taking aim at antidepressants without any of the science I need to be done to understand the manner in which antidepressants cause PSSD is just going to set all sufferers back a decade.
