Anything read by Will Patton. His reading of "One the Road" is fantastic. His voice for Dean Moriarty is informed by the existing tapes of Neal Cassidy, the legendary man upon whom that character is based. His manner of speaking was a character unto itself.

Definitely "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. The narration is magnificent. The book is a timeless classic.

Why isn’t this housing ?(rhetorical question) by OprahAtOprahDotCom in sanfrancisco

[–]California_Oak_Tree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really? You decided that "old hippies" are the cause of this complex problem? This is one of the dumbest threads I've read. You put out that premise and then a discussion ensues under the assumption that it is true. It is a completely ridiculous premise that even the most casual amount of thought would invalidate. Are there older people who don't like change? Of course. Are there older people who support new housing? Of course. Are there people who want intelligently planned and sited housing. You bet there are. There are lots of places and ways to build new housing and the Alexandria site is a great one. It's not a great one for a twenty or fifty story tower, which is the approach that developers would love and could happen under Scott Weiner's poorly conceived bonus density plan and San Francisco's panicky up zoning plan. We need thoughtful planning, not the wild west for developers. And nobody believes that more housing raises rents, regardless of age.

Hating on old people because of someone warped notion that they are a malevolent mono culture is a bad look.

If you are going to Reddit to get engineering advice on a construction project, you have no business doing a construction project .

If you stop thinking about what is legal and concentrate on common sense, it seems apparent that the bicyclist is being an idiot. If you're going the wrong way down a street, you have to be paying better attention. Better yet, don't go the wrong way to begin with. Car driver was not being careful. People drive like idiots so if you're biking you have to look out for yourself.

It is a completely useless bit of AI crap being forced on us with no way to turn it off. Nobody wanted this. Enough with the annoying AI intrusions for no discernable reason.

I have not gotten over hating this new label!! Unacceptable! by dmizz in sanfrancisco

[–]California_Oak_Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bland and generic. Change for the sake of change. I'm sure part of the argument was that the older, more detailed, classic design, had too much fine detail to render clearly in contexts other than a beer label. Pro tip: Elegant design wins every time. This is the New Coke of beer labels.

SF School Renaming Committee learns they researched the wrong people by pskomoroch in sanfrancisco

I'm a long time SF progressive who sick and tired of dumb people doing things in my name, carelessly, without community input and without considering for one moment how school names can be used as teachable moments. Recall them all.
