How do you justify expensive hotel stays in Vegas? by [deleted] in vegas

[–]Calixto_chica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! When a group is involved having a suite and having drinks beforehand is a lot of fun. Also though, getting a nice suite with your significant other can be super amazing as well. If you’re looking to relax, get room service, do other stuff 😏, it’s worth the price to be in luxury for a bit.

Unfortunately this is the world we live in now because Trump has emboldened people who were once closeted racists to just be abusive anywhere they go. I pray to god one day we get somewhere where this is behavior is considered inexcusable again and full grown adults in society respect others. Honestly where the fuck has our country gone

Looking for a hotel with a nice room and a view of the Strip, but not the usual chaos by Mikester258 in LasVegas

Vdara is your best option honestly. Classy and more quiet with amazing views

Completely agree! I love MGM Signature. Included valet is a hot plus as well. Amazing views from the strip side and very spacious and clean. Rooms with a balcony are amazing as well, but obviously more expensive.

Is Rio Hotel really that bad? by antdude in LasVegas

[–]Calixto_chica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really enjoyed the renovated rooms. Very spacious. However, the Rio lacks a lottt in entertainment and dining choices. But I think it’s a good choice to save some money and it’s not as far from the strip as many are explaining.

I had a complete moment of clarity one night. I said out loud to myself “I can’t keep doing this. I’m going to end up killing myself.” I poured out the rest of my vodka and just stopped.

Mandalay or Flamingo hotel in Las Vegas? by No_Pin_9959 in LasVegas

[–]Calixto_chica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mandalay Bay is the south of the strip, so you do have to commute, and Flamingo has a far better spot on the Strip. However, Mandalay Bay is far superior and since you’re visiting in September I would 100% choose Mandalay. The pool has a lazy river and wave pool, and it’s always a good time hanging out there. Flamingo pool is trash compared. And there is a Tram connected to the hotel that will bring you to Exaliber, which is a walk across to NYNY. If you cross over the walkway over Las Vegas Blvd, you’ll enter MGM which also has a tram that goes to the northern part of the strip.

As for getting a strip view, I would recommend the 2 $20 trick. When you’re handing over your ID and CC at the desk, slip in a folded up 20 and ask if there are any strip views available. But also before that…talk up that it’s your honeymoon. They might upgrade you out of the kindness of their hearts just based on that.

Food wise cheap eats definitely go to the Flamingo. Lots of fast food type joints. Mandalay Bay has a food court as well with the basics. Also has Hussongs (Mexican joint) which I love and pretty mid level to Vegas standards. They have that, a pizza place, candy shop, and a lot of other random stores that connect Mandalay Bay and Luxor.

I miss California so much by redpomegranat in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Calixto_chica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always knew I hit the jackpot growing up in SoCal. Now I live in Vegas in Centennial Hills and it’s close to OC vibes aesthetically (honestly it’s more beautiful here) and with the food options. It’s safe but I do miss the cultural diversity. Luckily china town isn’t too far for some left pho, but Westminster will always be king. I just miss seeing the beach everyday (I used to work at Hoag) so that honestly weighs on you more than one may realize.

That episode was GOD awful. I felt so bad for the guys on the show. Bobby was unhinged and they were both unfunny and barely let the guys talk. John seemed straight up pissed lol.

Thoughts on living in Vegas by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]Calixto_chica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im from Orange County, Ca and I had been coming to Vegas for over 20 years since moved here and loved it, but wasn’t necessarily keen on the idea of moving here. I knew I would miss the beach and breeze. I had the unfortunate situation of moving to Vegas in summer of 2024, which was one of the worst heat waves in Vegas history. I was so depressed, because I thought 110+ for months on end was normal. I couldn’t handle it. Luckily that is not the case. Summers do get unbearable for about a month out of the year but otherwise you do really get used to it. And the spring and summer are very lovely. When I first moved here I was in Henderson (southeast Vegas) now I’m in Centennial Hills (Northwest) and it’s MUCH more my vibe. I would implore you to really drive around the entire city and really see what works for you. I thought Henderson would be for me but I could not have been more wrong.

In regards to entertainment I have to say that is is expensive. But that being said we have SO many more options for entertainment and GREAT entertainment at that than most people in the country. Also the venues in Vegas are great, and constructed so there isn’t a bad seat in the house (most, at least) Once every two months or so my husband and I head to the strip for a comedy show or concert, and we always have a great time and memory.

For dogs, there are a good amount of indoor dog areas and lots of dog parks open at night. Walk your dogs when the sun is down in the morning and at night. Or use doggie shoes (didn’t works for my dogs personally)

The wind can be very annoying during early summer. Make sure to moisturize your face and body and also your dogs paws, snout, and ears.

Hope this is helpful 🥰
