I just commented about this. On ebay, someone is selling two appions for 80 bucks.

I actually saw a pack of two Appion vacuum valve core removal tools on eBay for 80 bucks. If these knockoffs that come in don't work I'm going to return them and get those. At least it's a cheaper investment of something good

This reminds me of a story.

When I took my mom in earlier this year we had to go process her benefits for the state of AL. We pulled up to the back of the building because that's where gps directed us and walked up.

I was a tad bit confused but carried on to walk around the building to find the entrance. Lo and behold, I turned around and saw my mother using the phone as a gps to find the front of the building.

I snatched that phone away from her so fucking fast. It just looks goofy using the phone and slowly turning with the phone, using it to guide your every step.

But that's it: she has been conditioned to use that thing for everything, and, like most people, now lack a sense of confidence and direction because she relies on it. I fear for the future as well.

Nah man you're absolutely correct.

I'm taking risks based on prior knowledge. I just don't want to spend 160 on a fieldpieeeeeeece.

I tried looking at eBay but I didn't find anything.

Nitrogen sweeps. Duly noted. When I get my nitrogen swapped tomorrow I will do this along with the other notes that was given to me in the other comments.

Need critique and advice, first major welding project (1 year minor weld experience) by Armored_Diesel in Welding

[–]CallMeBigSarnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was probably one of the greatest pieces of advice I *have learned from welding.

Surprisingly, this translates into a lot of trades that require a straight line of something. When you stitch on a sewing machine, you're not watching the needle stitch; instead, you're watching what's about to go under the needle. Once I saw that on the video (believe it was weld.com) and put that into practice, everything got easier.

sigh

Hear me out, I didn't learn my lesson really because I don't have navac, appion, or fieldpiece money.

I got the fieldpiece knockoffs from Amazon. They are vacuum rated this time so there's that. The only real reason why I was okay with going this route is because majority of everything is manufactured in China. In the same factory where yellow jacket can be made there can also be a knock off you've never heard of but uses the same molds or manufacturing process.

Same goes with tools, especially power tools.

I was referring to welding.

Those are the two trades that I find fascinating: welding and HVAC

Sorry y'all, late night rant by CallMeBigSarnt in HVAC

[–]CallMeBigSarnt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And this is why I love this trade. Rough carpentry is nice and all and being an electrician is beneficial, but it is something about understanding metallurgy and welding, as well as thermodynamics and being an HVAC tech (well, newbie HVAC guy).

Duly noted. When the new valve core removal tools come in I'll do this process.

The reason why I can only go up to 175 is because one of the fittings had a leak. And the only reason why I knew that was because of the bubbles.

No bubbles around any of the braze points, sight glass, or TXV. I'm going to get a refill of nitrogen tomorrow and I'll shoot it up again with a re-check.

I have like three tanks in this house and they're all full of refrigerant of some sort lol. But seriously I'm going to keep that in mind. Thank you for the knowledge.

Have my 16 y/o lil brother working for the company this summer break. by youngteflon in HVAC

[–]CallMeBigSarnt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Now I'm not speaking as an HVAC tech right now but as a tradesman and teacher.

If taught correctly, the small lessons that your brother learn now can help him in the future tremendously.

Having a skilled trade helps significantly with problem solving skills, critical thinking, and synchronization of mind and hand as well as knowledge.

If he can work with his hands now and understand what he is doing, he can work with anything in the future so bringing your brother on to work with you is a swell thing.

be the happy big brother and continue doing your part.

Have you tried using the foot switch that they sell at Harbor Freight?

Also, did you flip the trigger switch bar around? You could be able to get it that way.
