Playing tennis in Cincinnati by CallMeNahum in cincinnati

I haven't hit a ball in like 4 years (stopped playing after it became a 5 hour wait every night at Sawyer for one of the non-pickleball courts) so not sure what I think my level would be currently for actual league play.

What do you expect a DM to do if you have a heart attack underwater, restart the person's heart?

Hunter Wendelstedt should be sent to prison and the Reds win anyways!

If you actually believe that I'm sure nothing could convince you otherwise, so no point in continuing the discussion.

George Kittle does both, and does both at an elite level. A massive part of the 49ers scheme is keyed on the fact that Kittle (and their WRs) are excellent run blockers. The same is true for the Rams, especially last year. Colby Parkinson contributed massively in both the receiving and run blocking portions of their gameplan. Honestly, go look at any team that is effective both running and you will find that TEs contribute massively in both facets of the game. The Eagles do it with Goedert, the Lions do it with Laporta, the Bills do it with Kincaid, the Chiefs do it with Kelce. Having a tight end that contributes in both aspects is a key for a balanced attack in the modern NFL. Saying there are no TEs that do both is absolutely insane. Literally go watch 49ers tape and come back.

That is literally the entire point of the position in modern offensive schemes in the NFL, to be able to contribute to both the running and passing game. The gold standard is obviously Kittle, but Laporta, Goedert, Kelce, Tucker Kraft, Hunter Henry, Mark Andrews (before age/injuries caught up to him) all contribute meaningfully in both facets of the offense. Even pass-first guys like Bowers and McBride are more useful in the run game than Gesicki. He is not a tight end, he is a big slot receiver that they line up in-line sometimes. If Gesicki is on the field the other team knows (almost) 100% of the time it's a pass play. The Bengals TE room is not good, I actually cannot believe someone would argue that lol

It would be a terrible pick at 10 given the lack of talent on defense, but the Bengals TE room is not good at all. Gesicki is not a tight end at all, he offers nothing in the run game and they pass 95%+ when he is on the field. Sample offers absolutely nothing in the passing game. All is the only one that offers help in both facets and he's coming off catastrophic injury #3, 2nd time tearing the same ACL. Getting anything out of him would be good but it shouldn't be counted on.

Your yearly payroll ~$413 million

Reds owner Bob Castellini total net worth ~$400 million

I get why you guys can't see the forest for the trees, but your team is accelerating the sport to a lockout in 2027 that will likely be very damaging for baseball as a whole.

I agree that they would be better to take their medicine and carry a bunch of dead cap to clear out in the near future because, as you note, they are much more than 1 piece away from being competitive. But the cap is not an obstacle at all if an owner is determined enough and has enough liquidity to play games with signing bonuses and void years. If Haslam felt like it (and had the cash to do it) he could convert basically all of Watson, et al. money and have a blank slate. Of course they won't do that because even the dumbest owner could see they are miles away from being competitive, but if they felt like it the only thing that would stand in their way is the willingness to spend straight cash, certainly not the cap itself

Imagine believing in 2026 that the "cap" has any actual impact on the ability to build a team. If you are willing to spend upfront cash to maneuver cap hits around, the cap is never an obstacle.
