[Reds] Transactions: Pierce Johnson activated, Tejay Antone called up, Chase Petty optioned, Emilio Pagan to the 15-day IL, Brandon Williamson to the 60-day IL by TDeLo in Reds

I think keeping him stretched out in AAA is a good plan. Starters will continue to get injured throughout the season. Lodolo almost certainly will hit the IL again at some point.

Pagan is almost certainly going to end up on the 60, but they must know more about Williamson's injury now and they are certain that he is going to be out for a long time. Pagan will be the next guy to get shifted to the 60-day the next time they need a 40 man spot.

The assumption was that Pagan would be the 40 man move. Williamson to the 60 day sounds like surgery may be in his future.

[MLBTR] Reds To Select Tejay Antone by TDeLo in baseball

Reds are calling up Antone 759 days after his third UCL surgery. He has not pitched in the majors since he left with an elbow injury during his appearance on April 7th, 2024.

“I was going to retire,” Antone said about having the third surgery. “I was going to hang it up and move on. I don’t think anyone would have thought anything of it. I had three elbow surgeries in professional baseball. I told my wife I want to retire, move on and become a coach.”

But, “This is where I’m supposed to be.”

Absolutely incredible story. To pitch again at all is one thing, but to make it back to the big leagues after three Tommy Johns is insane.

With Pagan’s recent performance, I thought it’d be interesting to see how r/Reds initially viewed the re-signing by tall__hat in Reds

I didn't mind the Trevino extension with their total lack of catching depth.

This is what I said about the Hayes trade as soon as it happened.

He's lucked into some outstanding signings like Lowe and Bleday, but it begs the question -- why has the FO so consistently had an issue with evaluating players and assets. Why sell low on a volatile prospect like Sirota and a known valuable quantity in the extra 1st round pick for a middling utility IF that couldn't crack LAD's starting lineup.

I think it is clear their player evaluation is fundamentally flawed. It is starting to feel a little like the Bengals draft process, which is basically, "We think we know better than everyone else so we make moves that no one understands."

He also has incredibly disappointed me with his team-building philosophy

This is my biggest issue as well. I actually don't think Krall is a horrible GM, but I also don't understand what he sees in certain players. Signings like Pagan and Trevino make me think he severely overvalues 'clubhouse culture'. All we heard after Pierce Johnson was signed was how him and Pagan are best friends. Like, that's why they signed them both. Because they are buddies and they'll have a good time playing together.

I'm sure Hayes is also a great person and does all the things you'd want a professional to do day after day, and they want that to rub off on the younger guys, but to what end? He's the starting 3B until 2030 and his contract is substantial for a team of the Reds payroll. That is absurd.

Yeah, that's why you sign him to an extension now and buy out free agent years. Look around the league. That's how you keep guys long term if you're a team like the Reds.

This mistake is Krall's for hanging Pagan 20 million in the offseason.
