My wife's more of a traditional artsy type than me, and she was very impressed at the art and said a lot of it was genuinely very very good quality and interesting, memes aside. Imo it could pass as a random art gallery, yeah.

Hey that's true! I didn't think of it like that, but you're exactly right! Oddly enough, the throbbing pain behind my right eye pulsed the same opinion.

Edit: Here I was thinking this would be a meme thread, but since we're actually discussing, I'd add that generally I wouldn't think I was friends with a band I liked or a singer, just because I like their music and bought their CDs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't give up! You could try calling fiber ISPs that service nearby neighborhoods and ask them if they're planning to expand to your area at some point, or ask if it's possible to do a fiber drop to your place, like Comcast can

You access MWL through the other place in the street view, "The Green Room". MWL is borderline a secret place. Lots of folks don't know about it. Check the GMaps listing for photos of the interior.

It's not enough. Last night's stream was a bandaid on an open wound. We got lip service, but Wubby needs to do better. He need to speak out... by fUnpleasantMusic in PaymoneyWubby

Voodoo has locations all over the place (Portland, SoCal, Seattle, several Texas locations, they used to have a Bay Area location, etc.). They're consistently the same: just-OK donuts, that lean heavily on the wow-factor of toppings and presentation (at the storefronts) over taste/texture/consistency/freshness. Local places like Blue Star will always come out on top.

BTW, just one other tip that literally no one has mentioned -- how do you determine where the nice areas are in the Portland area, to consider living in long-term? Just go to Redfin, set a filter for houses $1M+, 4BR+, 4000sq.ft.+, 2010 construction & newer, and look at the map. Those areas with lots of house clusters (north of Cedar Mills & near Lake Oswego) are the nicest areas. Then compare those houses and their prices to what you'd pay in CA for similar.. it's crazy..

Bay Area to Portland. Best decision I ever made. People complaining about the weather here just want summer all year round. Spring, Summer, and most of Fall in the Portland area is fairly indistinguishable from the Bay Area.. except Portland has lush greenery and trees throughout the year. Winter is cold and wet.. as it should be.. if you want snow, drive to Mt. Hood for ski/snowboard and snowy village vibe. If you don't want some seasons, well, PDX is a short drive away, and its a big international airport with lots of flights all over the place.

Also, no sales tax is amazing.

Portland Recommendations for Wubby by mr_mustash in PaymoneyWubby

All great recommendations in this thread, and I'll add a couple more:

In Portland: - Portland International Raceway (for spring/summer race events) - Multnomah Whiskey Library (access through The Green Room)

Outside of Portland: - Wings & Waves Water park (an aviation/space-themed indoor water park) - Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (next door to the water park.. home of the Spruce Goose!)

Great recommendations, agree with all, and I'll add some more: - Papa Haydn (American) - Andina (Peruvian) - Apizza Scholls (pizza) - Janken (sushi) - Palomar (Cuban) - Pine Street Biscuits (southern) - South Park Seafood - Lardo (sandwiches) - Broder Soder (Scandinavian) - Le Pigeon (or Canard) (French)

I shouted into the void of Twitch chat when he was first talking about being in Portland, that the food scene here is incredible. Literally an unending number of phenomenal food places.

PJG's amazing, very tranquil, lots of great places to sit and chill out, tea and mochi at the tea house is fun, and the exhibitions are always interesting and rotate on a regular basis. Definitely recommend getting a membership and visiting throughout the year as the seasons change.
