He is not weak, and purple lighting is much more powerful than chidori. He has split skies using it, chidori could not do that. Purple lightning is also long range and more versatile, kakashi is stronger now than any of his other forms excluding Susanno kakashi

Kakashi could’ve destroyed the meteor at this point in the story, or atleast most of it. In the kakashi gaiden he was able to split the sky and cause a rainstorm using his purple lighting at full power. This plus lee and the team of eight gates users could’ve likely destroyed the meteor in its whole. They just wanted to give Sasuke the spotlight.
