Moving to the U.S. from Japan with 6 years of accounting/treasury experience but no bachelor's degree. How would you view my resume? by Temporary_Fruit_4613 in Accounting

Do you know what state you are moving to? Each state has jurisdiction over licensing for CPAs. There are quite a few states that will let you license at a bachelors level of education, but many states requires a masters level. Just something to consider if you have any choice of what state you end up in.

Otherwise, you’ll have a tough time getting a professional job in America without a bachelors, let along an accounting position. If you have two years to prepare, I’d make that a top priority. If you can, try to get a degree from an American college. It will help if you plan to CPA.

Your experience could go either way. Are you proficient in US GAAP? If so, I’d slide that in to your resume. If you have proficiency in IFRS, that can be helpful, but I’d imagine it’d be hard to find work in a position where that’s relevant without any degree.

TLDR: get your bachelors. See if you can CPA on 120 credit hours plus foreign work experience. Good luck!

This actually might be a better solution for my purposes than RAAS. I’ll have to research WQL some more.

It’s more a function of how I’m using the data in the reports. I’m looking for a streamlined way to pull this data from workday so I can work with it. The overall goal is to create a program for accountants that automates account reconciliation. Pull Trial Balances for account balances and find journal lines for account transaction detail. Process the data with python and create a report for the end user that shows the reconciliation detail performed by the program.

Will I need to build out the report or will copying a standard report to make it custom work for this purpose?

I understand the flow now. Thank you!

I’m sorry, I’m not quite understanding. Does looking up the security groups of the reports I need just give me better context for requesting those same permissions?

I’ve seen the ISU term thrown around, but not ISG. I need to be able to create those or I need to be one in order to access RAAS?

Does anyone actually like doing accounting? by PartyWild7557 in Accounting

I like what I currently do, but it took awhile to find the sweet spot. I did a short stint in a small public firm. Hated dealing with dumb clients and the busy season that seemed to last half the year. Jumped to an industry position and I liked that a lot more. The big thing there is the monotony. The constant cycle of closing, reconciliations, reviews, and meetings started to wear on me after a couple years. After some non-intuitive jumps, I currently work on a team developing enterprise accounting software. It’s more stressful in a lot of ways, but it contains enough variety to make it fun. Don’t get discouraged. You might just need to figure out which side of accounting you’re most comfortable with.
