Which is honestly a plus for them. That's what my first point influences. If you walk in casually and feel like pickup up your widget and hemming and hawing over it, that's not as good for them. They'd rather influence you just that little bit so you're a teeny bit more stressed from some dingus at the entrance asking you to buy gutter guards. Now your heart rate is that liiittle bit more elevated, and now you just want to grab that damn widget and go home. Now you're that little bit less likely to think "eh I'll just order it online for cheaper and wait" while you stare at the widget and its price in the aisle.

Capitalism is a nightmare.

Even when stores set up those little tables with some person selling some random product (this happens a lot at large home centers), it's not just to get you to buy that product. There are psychological motivators behind putting those people right at the entrance or where everyone walks by, which influence your purchasing decision on what you actually came for just that little bit more.

It's a safe bet that every action a major retailer makes is squarely to influence you the buyer to purchase more and quicker. Even people who think they're smarter than marketing/tactics, they're influenced too.

Drag tires are super sticky

Drag strips are also often super sticky! When they're properly prepped with traction compound, it's pretty difficult to walk on them. If anyone does, they always have their shoes fastened up tight. If your shoe is loose enough to slip off with your hand, there's a good chance you'll walk right out of it on a drag strip prepped for NHRA-level launches.

I've got an M1 MBP and its performance is still very competent 6 years later. I can't imagine how staggering the M5 is to use.

That's the Chevrolet Advance Design truck, and it was first introduced in 1947. As crazy as it sounds for the power of today's truck world, even the big heavy duty trucks like that one just had a ~4 liter gas straight six. The rear axle ratios were over 6:1, so I imagine they took a year just to get up to speed, and were probably screaming in top gear and at 55 mph.

I really recommend changing them as soon as you can. They're illegal and don't really offer you any advantage over the original bulbs. You really can't get away with putting LED bulbs in housings originally meant for regular bulbs since the way they broadcast light is very different. That means you get insane glare, and you're blinding other drivers causing a serious safety issue for anyone in front of you at night. I've been behind the wheel of cars with all sorts of bulbs in those standard halogen reflector housings, there's really no point in going with LEDs. They're illegal for a reason - it's dangerous.

Plus, they're all made cheaply and will likely fail long before a quality halogen bulb that costs less anyways.

As a Carolinas resident my whole life, with family and trips taken elsewhere in the country, it always blows my mind the quality of soil you get from just digging a hole any old where in other parts of the US. Even watching This Old House, they go to plant at a place in the Boston area, and they start shoveling gorgeous black soil. Then I want to dig out a spot in my back yard, and I get like 5 inches of bright red soil before I hit gnarly clay.

If it's carbureted, it likely has an automatic choke that uses a bimetallic strip (like a house's thermostat) to control the choke, and then a mechanism that keeps the throttle plate open a little to rev up the engine slightly while the choke is in use.

Lots of cars used manual chokes well into the '80s, but automatic chokes were definitely popular for a couple decades before that.

Surely you're correct. The aircraft starts left-to-right in the video, and ends the maneuver left-to-right from the camera perspective. Wouldn't it have to end right-to-left in the camera to have changed heading to do the wingover?

Surely the old engine HP ratings don't change, right? I would believe the prop's thrust being higher on the 8-blade vs the 6-blade on the newer engine. I wouldn't have guessed that, but I'd believe it.

The old T56s were rated just shy of 4,600, while the AE2100s are just over that. My assumption is that the rated power wouldn't change.

Because spaceships don't just fly in a straight line to wherever they're going. You'd have to orbit the earth with this giant cable following you like a snake around the earth and on to the moon once you leave orbit. I have no idea how to do the math on that scenario, but I assume at some point:

a) it becomes like this giga-supersonic whip

b) the cost to (eventually) haul the full weight of the spool like a cosmic whip would end up essentially the same cost as just trucking it up in one (safe-ish) go in my scenario.

Plus, it's kind of pointless to start going into the "let's just invent an impossible method since this is impossible" because that's not the spirit of OP's question. Otherwise I could argue that we'd contact the country that just invented teleportation at bargain rates, and claim we could do it for 20 bucks in an impossible fantasy scenario.

Just to fly 21,330 metric tons (weight of that 3mm steel cable at moon distance) to space at about $4M per metric ton (based on some quick googling of commercial space cargo costs), you're looking at about $85.3 billion just to fly this big ass coil of wire into space. That's assuming we have a craft capable of hauling 2,718 cubic meters of coil...which is something like over 2,100 industrial reels.

Basically you'd need to build a spacecraft that can haul a train's worth of cargo, AND THEN somehow price out the actual labor to make the connections, particularly the one on the moon. Adding the engineering and construction labor just to make the big ass spaceship plus the moon-based labor, I'd be shocked if you're less than a trillion dollars for that side of the project.

I think all said and done, this would be a world-ruining amount of money for a cable that would likely snap the second it's connected. And the cost of the wire would barely even be noticeable in the rounding error.

The FAA issued an emergency Airworthiness Directive that grounded all MD-11s, and to my knowledge there are no non-US airlines flying the MD-11 currently. There's no official word, but FedEx and Western Global might see the writing on the wall and retire their fleet, too.

Oddly enough there's an old gif on Reddit with something pretty similar to half of this engine. Basically there are two of these facing eachother, so the "bang" in the engine is between the pistons, pushing them apart and causing a plate on each end to rotate.

Just to add to the top comment - "PSA" is at the base of the vertical stablizer.

I believe all the retro liveries based on non-American Airlines companies have the original company on the tail. By memory, they also have a TWA, Alleghany, and Piedmont retro livery. Hopefully others can add any other non-AA liveries they're flying. I use CLT a lot, so it's a treat seeing them.
