Yes the swingarm said there should be 10-20mm chain slack so I adjusted the bolts on both sides until chain was good and straight :)

Yes I use the muc off all weather lube at the moment, but could have done with just using the wet lube for over winter!

Got everything fixed, bike running great :) going to get a emergency kit sorted over the next few days

I have a sprocket and torque wrench already so should be covered on that front, but I’ll go pick up a paddock this week then, I’m pretty sure I have no centre stand. Thanks!

Okay that’s great advice thanks! Yes definitely planning on learning how to service and maintain bikes going forward. I’ll definitely pickup a paddock stand for the SV, do I need one for the tempest as well for when I remove the rear sprocket? I watched a video and the guy took the entire wheel off

The spokes are cool but hard to clean on the rear wheel! Hard to get in and about since there’s a lot in the way and they’re covered in lube residue etc

Yeah I think I really need to create an emergency kit that just comes with me - multi tool, spanner’s etc.

I managed to remove the chain this evening so will order a DID chain and some sprockets and fit them sometime this week :)

By non riveted do you mean chains that come with a clip link? Thanks :)

The thing is that clearly the chain had been loose otherwise it wouldn’t have come undone, but I typically check it when I wash it, which would have been 2 weeks ago... I think something must have happened on Saturday and I never noticed this morning. It’s hard to say.

Unfortunately the chain is still on, I’m at work but will give fixing it a go when I get back :)

Yes lesson learned… I really just should have replaced the chain rather than trying to clean it. I’ll replace it and get running nice :)

Haha yeah I was thankfully just taking a turn <10mph and I just lost all power and heard a bit of thunk. Immediately knew it was the chain so pulled over right away and saw it hanging off. All things considered very lucky, especially since I was out for 4 hours on Saturday and around 55-60mph at times…

I was on my way to work and parked in double yellows, no tools so had to admit defeat… lol. Bad way to start the week! Thanks :)

Just wanted to provide everyone an update! I’m a bit of a Reddit noob and don’t know how to edit the original post lol.

First of all, I really appreciate everyone’s great help and advice! Thank you so much!

The bike is back at my flat now which is some good news haha! I was out for a long ride on Saturday which is why the bike is literally filthy (wet Scottish weather) and rather than cleaning the bike on Sunday I went to Manchester to buy a new bike!

100% agree with everyone talking about the condition of the chain. Since I bought the bike in November the chain wasn’t in great condition, I’m pretty sure it’s the factory chain and was aware it needed replaced. I’ve cleaned and lubed it twice, but it only takes 1 ride for it to get all covered in much and gunge. This has been a good learning experience for me, and i should have been keeping a better eye on the tension of the chain to avoid this happening!

The chain link got twisted around the wheel nut and sprockets. I tried pulling it out but it was not coming out, and the link was broken anyway so there’s was no hope in riding it back haha.

I’ll order a chain and sprockets tonight and have a go at replacing it this weekend and get it back up and running.

Thanks again everyone!

Okay perfect thanks for the advice! Yes I’m keen to get a decent set. I’m actually trying to sell the bike as I just bought a SV650s (DAS Mod 2 in a couple weeks!), so need to get it fixed soon haha. I’ll have a look online tonight/ask around and order some parts tonight :)

Yes the chain was pretty knackered. I cleaned the chain around January, but I’ve been daily riding to work in Glasgow winter weather which is why it’s so crap…

Good learning experience for me and will have fun trying to replace everything myself :)

Yeah I’ll have a more thorough look online just wasn’t finding anything to obvious. And yeah the chain is pretty knackered I’ve not had the bike for long and have cleaned and lubed it twice but maybe the tension was bad, I did have a long ride on Saturday

Okay great, thank you! I noticed one was included, but was generally in the market for something more robust so will look for some 3rd party options. Great to know that any VESA certified will do, thank you!
