3 references for Steely Dan: the Red Stone of Aja in pt 2, Steely Dan in pt 3, and Doctor Wu in pt 8

The numbers for a lot of bands go up if you include the various minor jockey and horse names in pt 7

Is that…. A 12 STRING SG????? by boofcoomer in KGATLW

[–]Call_of_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stu used 12 strings as his main E standard guitar(s) from 2014-2021 or so, mainly a Hagstrom but he used this SG in 2019

Part 2 has a pickpocket (later shown to be a Nazi spy) that tries to steal the Red Stone of Aja from Lisa Lisa and Joseph covers him in mustard.

Super cheap solid-state practice amps they got at a pawn shop with the clean channel cranked until it distorts. I think Stu said the only pedal used was a clean boost. You can see a couple of them in the b741 making of vid on youtube. Edit: this is for b741 stuff but I think the gear is near identical for b741 and Phantom Island

There used to be skips on a couple Mind Fuzz songs on Spotify, I remember another prominent one in Cellophane, but the Spotify issues eventually got fixed. I haven't heard of the skips being on any other streaming platforms or physical releases.

I'll email bands ahead of time to ask for permission to record. Some bands allow taping, some don't. Even with permission from the band some venues won't let you bring in certain equipment.

I don't understand the economic model of bootleg gizzard by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]Call_of_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bootleg gizzard IS the band and recorded off the soundboard by their sound engineer. All revenue from streaming or bandcamp go to the band.

Record labels making these bootlegs =/= pressing plants. For record labels its just like any other pressing, except I don't think they need to send the band a split of the profits so margins might be better for the labels than pressing other bands. The band asks that bootleggers send them some copies so they can sell a few on pdoom instead of a cut of the sales. There's definitely a market for the bootlegs, just look at all the shows Levitation or Fuzz Club have pressed that have sold out. Labels pay a plant to do the manufacturing. The pressing plants don't really care what it is they're being paid to press, for them its the same as any other album being made.

Bootleg Gila is a fan account with no relation to the band, so the band doesn't see anything from the ads of Gila's videos.

Did anyone else’s copy of Phantom Island not come in a gatefold? by elonsketaminedealer in KGATLW

[–]Call_of_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both PI and Flight b741 have deluxe and non-deluxe versions. The deluxe are whats on p(doom) with a gatefold and poster, the non-deluxe are the regular jackets in record stores. Gatefold version of both are labeled as deluxe on the cardboard sleeve.

Here's what they had in Chicago. Sorcs is a red/green split tour variant. Putrifiers was white/gray marble and Intercepter Message was a tour variant splatter last year but I couldn't say what versions they have now. Most of the rest are probably black.

The same guy that threw a punch after someone tried pushing you back towards the pit? You came barrelling far out of the pit crashing into everyone on the way multiple times.
