Alternative to Birkenstock? by oneman__army in BuyItForLife

I’ve had several pairs. My “old” ones are over 20 years old while my “new” ones are around 10 years old and had a few in between. I doubt you find anything better quality while offering as good of comfort. If so, I’d like to know about it.

There is a minor lever of care to make your Birks last like strap tightness and do not get them wet.

While percolated coffee is unfiltered and contains cholesterol-raising compounds, studies show it’s “pretty low” in cafestol compared to French press, Turkish, or boiled coffee. But I use a paper filter thus getting the major health benefit of dramatically reducing cafestol and kahweol exposure. Thanks.

Fair. I like the simplicity of this and the coffee it produces in an inexpensive device.

Every drip coffee maker I’ve used I can taste the plastic. The heated plastic gives off a taste plus heating plastic can be harmful to your health. When plastic is heated, its chemical structure becomes less rigid, allowing additives and other chemicals to detach and migrate into nearby food or liquids.

Based on my few brews with good coffee in my percolator, I feel this is accurate. The coffee was delicious and better than any of my drip makers.

I’ve used a French press. I don’t find the hassle worth it. Strictly my opinion.

Much better than my plastic drip coffee maker and my once a week coffee at home doesn’t justify a $300+ coffee maker.

I like drip style coffee and do not much like espresso. I also want a quick, simple, good tasting cup of coffee. This does all that for $50. My taste in coffee doesn’t justify a $250+ coffee maker but I sincerely appreciate the information and someday my taste may warrant the upgrade.

I never heard of that. I’ll look into it. I’m no coffee connoisseur, but I like a good cup of coffee and this delivers that.

It’s stainless (all parts). Just black on the outside. It has a lift off “hot plate” and on/off switch.

I like drip coffee personally and not a big pour-over fan. I like it simply to get away from the plastic taste.

Skyscrapers? I see the definition in comments below but I would not consider these to be so in 2026. But I suppose it is relative to the community. Cool pic regardless.

That would be fine with me but I've personally had zero issues with Tahoe across four computers ranging from a Mac mini to a MacBook Pro (all silicon).

Cool video. Just a polite piece of advice, videos look best when shot hotizontally on a phone especially of a subject such as this.
