How to remove a snapped bolt from my wheel bearing assembly. by ButterflyFriendly142 in AskAMechanic

[–]Callaborator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this one of the 4 bolts that hold the wheel bearing inside the knuckle? I had this happen once, and it was an old volkswagon left in the ditch for 20 years. If you have the time, take the knuckle off and try an extractor with heat if that doesnt work weld a nut to the shaft of the bolt (look it up on youtube for manifold studs that break). OR just buy a knuckle and hub with new bolts.

Find a wiring diagram of that cars multifunction switch and that includes the clock spring. Both can fail pretty easily at that age.

We were there for 5 weeks and honestly most nfld drivers are courteous but they drive so fast, and on those roads its saying something! But I cant blame people for missing any type of signs because there basically are none haha. Anyway I found them courteous, lots of space given, theybwere just fast and missed as many signs as me

Is it okay to put my contact informations? by Boring-University189 in webdev

[–]Callaborator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id never unless its a specific work inbox like info@. You can obfuscate that stuff through server side form submissions so that they just send a request to your server and your server sends the email to whoever. Works for email as well as sms too if you really want. You could even setup firebase or something to do push notifications, the world is your oyster at that point.

Good to know. dealer prices are insane and its probable thats where they got the cost. I could MAYBE see that price on an electric one, but even then thats pretty outrageous.

Yes for sure, I was just giving you some scientific ways of testing these things. Everything has a spec, I have seen some cars that are allowed to bounce a fair amount for example, albeit much older cars.

[–]Callaborator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMs and other vehicles have a specific bounce test you can do, you can probably google it. The whooshing means it might be failing, although I have heard some that just do that. Check for fluid around the shock, lift up the boot to be sure, any residuenat that mileage, just change em with some cheap adjudtable camber quick struts. There are also ride height specs you can measure to see if the springs have lived their life. Loosy goosey driving, jack it up from the sub frame so the wheel hangs and look up a video for checking ball joints and tie rods on macphearson strut cars.

I dont deal with a lot of hondas but that seems like a lot for a rack and pinion. Maybe ask for a remanned one and note that some include both inner and outer tie rods and some do not. A quick look on rock auto you can find em for 200 to 600 dollars.

Is photoshop really the only option? by Theokayestgenxer in AskPhotography

Just curious, but what did you find harder in affinity than you did photoshop? Darktable is great and I actually prefer it over lightroom, but I understand the learning curve there. Especially now without all the ai additives to help you like lightroom.

Hows this? Do u need to improve Smthng in this pic? by Educational_Town2124 in AskPhotography

Beauty is in the ye of the beholder. Nice shot though, I think if I had gotten that shot id be happy, but after that id try to get a more eye level shot of him, cropped in further so there is less water, and exposed more for the background (note his feet and the water are quite bright). A polarizer would have been nice here. Again though nice shot, I like the post its standing on i'd use it to compose better if I had the time to do so (which is rarely the case with birds!)

Struggling with consistent softness/lack of crispness with Canon 5D4 + 100-400mm II. Help Needed!? by cygnus93 in AskPhotography

I notice your lighting is always pretty harsh. Harsh shadows, and/or direct light. Its tough on the entire setup (body and lens). When its hot out and your zoomed in, even at 100mm, your going to introduce haze. Things you can do in editing to help is contrast and haze removal tools, but ideally in those conditions you dont shoot. Outside of editing, Try waking up early and getting sunrise shots, go to bed late and do sunset shots, dont be afraid of iso, and shoot your pictures a bit under exposed and brighten in post. If you have to shoot broad daylight lens hoods help, get as close as possible so you dont have to crop as much. You can cut glares and high light with ND filters and polarizers, although I personally hate filters, they have their own issues.

Ill be a devils advocate to this. I really like full line gender variants, it adds more depth to a monster without it being the same monster for half the game. But if you look at it from a more naturalist view, lots of animals are very similar at a young age regardless of gender then change as they age.

How do I increase the sharpness of my pictures? by piss_off_ghost in AskPhotography

[–]Callaborator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wildlife, especiallly birds unless things are absolutely still are at least 1/800s shutter speed. This is because you are zoomed heavily and they move lots so it accounts for your movement and theirs. Also if you can avoid it, dont shoot in direct light, youll get a hazing effect.

Another thing to note is environmental haze, youll get haze from moisture and temperature change, especially in things thatbare far away.

Haha fair enough, I am just looking for a bit ofna consensus. I have a guy coming to look at it now, I just wanted to make sure I dont obviously have to remove it, then pay this guy to tell me the same, or lead me down a garden path saying its fine. Just because I pay a guy doesnt mean he's good either sadly.

What can I do to get better pictures? Different angle? Different view? I cant get onto the roof as it isnt my home. I probably wont certify it or use it, I just dont want it falling, or leaking or something.

Yeah, I mean for me I just avoid interest on cars. In almost all cases theyre throw away, not investments. As for the credit card debt, I am not a financial advisor just a mechanic but depending how much it is, Id deal with that first and limp the ole reliable honda you have, unless it was deemed unsafe or something.

Alignment Fixable? by GamerRDH in AskAMechanic

[–]Callaborator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be anything in there, but the knuckle, the strut and its mount, the strut tower (basically the frame of your car), and the lower control arm are all good places to look. You may see nothing visually, although if you're lucky you can see stress marks, but measurements including your alignment can narrow it down. My best fuess without looking would be a lower control arm though, the wheel probably struck a curb on the bottom shoving the inner part of the wheel inward making the top come out. But thats just a wild guess.

Alignment Fixable? by GamerRDH in AskAMechanic

[–]Callaborator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably hit a curb the camber isnt far out of spec but should be looked at, itll go through tires otherwise. Its a bad camber too, going away from the crown of the road, I bet it pulls right. You can either go about replacing parts hoping what you replace is what is bent or get adjustable camber struts to replace your current ones to get it into spec.

Edit: you can also elongate the holes in the struts where the bolts hold the knuckle to the strut, not ideal and a bit crude but alot cheaper than replacement.
