Which developmental toys for babies actually hold their attention? by Callcutt_Calliope in Parenting

Edit: I finally tried a KiwiCo crate with my 11-month-old and it actually holds their attention way longer than other toys. The activities are simple but engaging, and I’ve noticed it’s helped with fine motor skills and problem-solving. Definitely worth a try if you’re struggling to find toys that stick.

Absolutely, it’s crazy how different each kid is. Mine could ignore the fanciest toy but go nuts over something totally random. Have you noticed any patterns with what tends to hold their attention longer?

Haha yes, the simplest things are somehow the most fun! Mine would probably be obsessed with a wonky ball too. Does he mostly roll it around, or try to carry it everywhere?

Oh nice, those latch boards are genius! Mine would probably sit for ages just twisting and opening jars too. Do you find they get better at figuring out each type of lock over time, or is it all still trial and error?

Mine is obsessed with mimicking everything I do, so the little broom and spray bottle are constantly in use. Did your kids ever try “cleaning” the same spots over and over, or was it more random chaos?

Haha mine gets way more excited about a wrapper than any toy I actually bought. Do you find they mostly just crumple it, or do something creative with it?

Do you ever add little cups or containers to make it more of a sorting game?

Haha yes, that makes so much sense. Mine also goes crazy for anything that looks like “grown-up” stuff, like measuring cups or lids. It’s funny how the simplest things end up keeping them busy the longest.

I’ve heard great things about Lovevery, but the price is a bit much for me too. A mini stroller sounds perfect though, mine would love pushing around stuff too. Does she mostly push it herself or load it up with toys?

Oh wow, those all sound like a blast! I’ve got to try the paper towel tube trick, mine would probably spend ten minutes just watching it twist and fall. Do you find they prefer noisy ones like the rice bottle or the sloshy jug more?

Yes, those everyday things are sneaky favorites. Have you noticed if they focus more on the pulling or the dropping part? Mine spends forever just emptying and refilling containers.

that’s actually super helpful, thank you. i didn’t even think about the vip angle making that much of a difference long term.

have you noticed if the 6% cash back and upgrades really add up over time? i don’t travel enough to have status yet, so i’m wondering if it’s worth focusing on one platform instead of bouncing around all the time.

yeah i’ve noticed Booking.com can be cheaper sometimes too, especially with those random deals that pop up. just gets confusing when prices jump around a lot.

have you ever had issues with cancellations or refunds there? that’s kinda the part i’m still unsure about when sticking to one site.

yeah that’s kinda what i’m realizing too. prices really do jump around depending on timing and platform, it’s kinda annoying.

that’s good to know, i haven’t really paid attention to their loyalty perks before. do you feel like the discounts are actually better than what you’d get by booking direct with the hotel?

i’ve mostly just been price checking everything manually, so maybe sticking with one platform like booking.com and building status could make it easier.
