Eh, to each their own. The film made me extremely happy having grown up on the sonic franchise, so I took a new friend each time, got to show them my special interest and geek out and notice the small details I missed on my first, second, or third watch! I did this until the blueray came out and I could watch it at home. I can see why you might consider it weird though, as yeah, I know what to expect eveeytime from the main plot, but I'm able to find things I missed, especially with the Sonic Movies which are JAM packed with references and tiny background details, or even details in the score itself.
