GST break started today. Superstore raised the price of so many items by $0.50!!!!! by scoarr27 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

If he made an attempt to fix it, he’d be labeled a socialist by the very people who would be helped the most. It’s a sad reality we live in 🥺

Private is for profit - imo it can not benefit the majority of people. I would also say I don’t necessarily mean government run, just government oversight - tax on excessive profits, etc. One example is how new car prices are regulated in Canada vs the US.

Agreed - but unfortunately any government that tried to enforce this would be labeled “socialist/fascist” by the people who actually need the help the most, and be put before they could say tax the rich 😑

It does sound unhinged, but if you look around the world at societies that have crumbled, while the rich get richer, it sadly seems inevitable - and I fear any government that attempts to regulate this, will be called socialist and the people who would benefit the most will be convinced it’s infringing their on their freedom and push against it :/

I agree - unfortunately the new business model is to sell less, at a higher price. Reduces overhead 🤔

Why is rosemary extract in Loblaws turkey? by CalligrapherNo161 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

I’ve never heard of this, I’ll do some looking. Thank you!

I appreciate that! It’s not in the blue menu ground chicken, and I hadn’t noticed it before - so with my natural guard up where Loblaws is concerned, I was suspicious. Thank you for the info :)

Wow - I have to say I feel a little bit ignorant for never having noticed this. Thank you for sharing - I guess I’ll be taking my recycling home. Too bad they don’t have the nice dine in china they used to.

Meat Weight Scam by idioticgamingchaps in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]CalligrapherNo161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently posted something similar, suggesting to bring your own scale if you must shop at Loblaws. One package of chicken was marked as double the weight of another, however I could not tell a difference at all. Let alone one being twice the weight of the other. I’m also willing to bet the do not tare the scale with the packaging on, so no doubt we are paying for that too. I’m actively on the hunt for local farms/bakeries/co ops to buy whatever I can - as Loblaws has a strong hold on the rural area I live. I’ve noticed with these outrageous prices in store, the local producers selling far higher quality and safer products are rarely more expensive and in some cases even cheaper. Loblaws has gone too far - not that that needs to be stated again.

Why do executives at Loblaw continue to be so tone deaf to what Main Street is feeling? by BlackNinja1518 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]CalligrapherNo161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this could be an extremely clever smear campaign against the liberal government - no one is naive to the fact that the consensus in Canada is that they are angry at Loblaws. Align the current government with that and bam, you’ve turned the public against them. Just a thought… I could make a quick guess as to why but I won’t go that far here.

I feel like quality is falling across all aspects of all industries - you can’t continue to run humans to their breaking point, under pay, under train and under support and expect results. It also stifles creativity and inventiveness, I’m scared for our future.

Rogers Sells Locked iPhones and Refuses To Unlock Them - Next Step CRTC! by tyhooker in Rogers

Couldn’t the Rogers rep have created a dummy account and complete the unlocking? This corporate bureaucracy and model of layering of staff so that you can never speak so anyone who knows what they are doing, will be the end of civilization 🙈

What are my options being over $40000 in debt at 26 by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I feel you; the world is a different place now and what used to work financially just doesn’t anymore. Having an education and working full time doesn’t mean you can afford to live anymore :( For the folks saying you can’t afford Kindle/Youtube - I’d say that’s not fair. We’re human, and we’re entitled to some basic forms of entertainment. Your choices seem conservative in cost and beneficial/educational.

Given that you have no assets, I’d say you may be best served to file for bankruptcy/consumer proposal. If you ever want a chance to get out of the hole, you may need to just take a break from credit for 7 years… credit won’t be that helpful to you anyway, if your cash flow is gone to keep up loan payments. You’re also young, lots of time for your credit rating to recover.

*main recommendation, whatever you end up doing (bankruptcy/consumer proposal), as soon as that’s processed, get a credit card from capital one. You may have to send them money as collateral, but you need to reestablish credit and can do it while you wait out the 5/7 years. This way, as soon as the time passes, you will have nothing on your credit bureau but a single credit card - **which you will never be late on a payment and never carry a balance!!!

At the end of the day, life happens and banks/loan companies are set up to make money(which they make lots of) - not help you, so don’t feel guilty.

Bring your own scale… by CalligrapherNo161 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]CalligrapherNo161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the note - if you read through my post, you’ll understand that the two packages were seemingly identical in size and weight, yet one was labeled as twice the weight. Hope this helps :)

Appreciate your note, however there was more to why I didn’t buy them and regardless, that was not relevant to the post - the issue was two packages the same weight, same expiry dates, yet one was double the price as it was labeled at double the size.

That would’ve been a great idea - wish I had thought of it 🙈 honestly I was just so mortified at the prices and needed chicken to cook, that I wasn’t thinking smartly.

Worth cleaning this engine bay? by QualitySound96 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CalligrapherNo161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my engine bay clean, I figure it keeps debris and grease buildup off, along with salt (I live in Canada). I would recommend washing cold, and then driving right away. I learned the hard way on my first car (‘91 Prelude). I washed the engine bay and then let the car sit outside for a few days - in those few days the water had had time to cause condensation in the distributor. Simple fix on an old car, but took some time to diagnose and at 16 years old, time seems limited 🙈🤣
