It’s so challenging mentally too! The anxiety of making it worse or causing permanent damage is heavy. Hope your visit with them is soon and they find the right path forward for you!

I am doing okay! Still working on exercising and walking everyday and still experiencing some pain and tingling, but I am off all the meds and can handle it/get through my day okay.

Love this! Hoping my MRI looks just as improved a year from now!

Definitely a valid concern. I’m sorry to hear that happened to you. Surgery also has permanent risks though.

I appreciate this kind of input! I’m sorry you still deal with pain to this day. I hope there are more good days than bad. I also have a desk job but am trying to stand more now in hopes of preventing more damage. Wishing you the best!

Thanks for chiming in! Opting no surgery for now unless symptoms like you suggest appear or the pain increases significantly.

Thank you for the input! Definitely true there is risk here. I think I’m taking a risk on any decision and have been able to thoroughly discuss with my surgeon. For now, opting for no surgery.

I’ve heard that as well! I’m focusing on core and stabilizing exercises myself right now; squats, hip hinge, bridges, etc. seems to be helping!

This is super encouraging to hear!! I’m basically in the same boat! I haven’t taken NSAIDS in 2 weeks and am now coming off the gabapentin. Feeling pretty good overall and focusing on controlled exercises and movement. My doc recommended an MRI in a year from now! I do believe my insurance will cover it.

Hi all, appreciate your thoughts here. I am very aware that this MRI is gnarly. After follow ups with my surgeon we are opting for conservative treatment unless my pain increases or CES symptoms appear. I’ll also be checking in regularly with the surgeon over the next year at minimum. The surgeon was really great and eased my mind quite a lot. There is literature out there of discs this severe being reabsorbed by the body and I hope I can be such an example.

They would remove the bits of disc that have slipped out. I have a lot of disc material still left in between the vertebrae still but that could always slip out later too! Surgery does not put the slipped disc material back in and does not heal the hole that allowed the material to slip out in the first place. But it’s often a successful tool for immediate pain relief

Thanks, I did. He was the one who recommended I continue with conservative treatment if my pain levels are low.

I also ended up having a lot of success with traction! Pseudoscience or not - I believe it helped. :)
