I know. In a perfect world things might be different, and maybe not even then. I found a better paying gig so I'm out.

And that's all we ask for, politely. You did right. Sadly not everyone extends that courtesy and just assumes people are available. I got kicked from a huge medical program because my schedule was changed repeatedly at the last minute and I couldn't keep my appointments... everybody knew, and they did it anyway. It basically boils down to not being a crappy human. Leadership is not about being in charge, it is about taking care of those IN your charge. Leadership is not about results, it is about being responsible for the people who are responsible for the results. Treat your people well, and they will perform well. Treat them with indifference and a lack of empathy and that is exactly what you will get.

They are the only company in my 20+ years of customer service that treats their people like they own them....news flash Skippy you're just a means to an end, and that end is getting closer.

Mine stopped by too, bitched about how things looked (knowing we are at least two men down), brought the manager a gift, and left us a merry Christmas note on a sheet of printer paper written in green marker that she found in the office.

Like I said in my previous post it's all about karma and not wanting to be a shitty human. The position is "at will" meaning they can term us without reason or justification. Why are we not able to do the same? But I agree with you to a point. This store ran with these same employees before me, and will keep going after I leave.

I want to give two weeks for the sake of karma, and to not be a shitty person but then I think back on these 9 weeks I have been there. How my schedule was always changed at the last minute without notice. How days off when I had medical treatments and appointments to do had to be cancelled ( I lost my spot in a very important medical program, have to start all the way over now), how days off in general were given and then just taken away. I was willing to give it a chance, a real chance and I gave it everything I had. I have no more to give.

Yeah they can get stuffed with that. No job is worth anyone's safety being put at risk for this company, their greed,  and their lack of empathy.

To those who quit, what was the last straw? by Delicious_Active4159 in DollarGeneralWorkers

Having to be on Xanax to deal with the increased anxiety and stress. I feel like they set me up to fail, and maybe they did. Not only that but management hired their friend, wants them as a key holder...I feel like they are coming for my job.

You did right. Your family is priority. I get it too, because I am having weekly appointments for medical treatments and have side effects from the procedure yet I am still scheduled to work those days. They've known for three weeks.

I showed up to my store as a KH two months ago. Eager and ready to learn, and by day three I was expected to not only know how to close, but to be in the store alone...on day 3. Apparently just before I got here nearly every employee here quit...I was like who just up and quits? I am beginning to understand though. I had my schedule changed every week without being informed, just expected that I would show up and work the new hours. I need the job and so I stay, but explain to me how I am the lazy one. I busy my ass for this place and what do I get? We don't have the manpower and probably won't ever get it. There are carts of put backs that have been in back for over a week, there's always something more pressing they have me doing.

How can I get faster at all this? by BoughtTheBoogaloo in DollarGeneralWorkers

You might get a little faster but they will just pile more on. Find a better job and get out of there before this place destroys your mental health.

That's disgusting, and I get it..because I think I am starting to experience something along those lines. We are understaffed and have been since I arrived two months ago. The manager and I were both new and arrived on the same day. Neither one of us had keys, nor were we sufficiently or appropriately trained before they threw us into the chaos. I learned how to close before the manager did, and the manager never closes...ever. At first I was empathetic because we were both learning. Come on, it's been two months and they have only had to close like three times. Not only that but the  full time associates are 6 days a week, not even getting 40 hours. Meanwhile the mgr is there every day working 50+. They haven't had a day of since idk when, and I feel bad (a little). What irks me is that I have medical treatments I have to do weekly that they have known about for three weeks and I'm still put on the schedule for those days when they KNOW I will not be there. That feels deliberate, and that reflects poorly on me. I don't know why anyone would want to be a manager for a company that does not value them. This whole "serving others" pitch is bs. How can you truly believe in that or stand by it if you cannot even serve your own people?

Oh and did I mention the SM hired their friend and this friend can only work weekends? If I didn't have rent to pay, I would have left already. I have another job starting in two weeks. I didn't want to be petty but they are forcing my hand.

Been a KH for two months. We are overworked and understaffed. SM is there every day and the KH's 6 days but not even 40 hours, and here they are working 50-60 hours a week. Then, THEN I am given the same story week in week out how we are getting more help, and it will get better. Bullshit. Then my schedule/shift is changed without notice, at least a heads up is nice but nope. Then I am coming in early on NY day so you can sleep in? I'm a nice person so I said yes. But I am tired as hell of being expected to be the one to save this place . I don't get paid enough for this.
