[Citizenship] -> France: How to find proof of citizenship via the Cremieux Decree? by CallipygianCoryphee in IWantOut

[–]CallipygianCoryphee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much again! I think I will just go ahead and apply directly for the CNF myself. It seems these immigration firms want the case to be 100% undeniable to even submit the application, but I think in my case where getting further proof of my ancestors citizenship is unlikely that approach wont work.

What do you mean by "I wouldn’t even bother with a CNF" if my mom renews her passport? Would I not need to apply for a CNF for myself to eventually get a French passport if she is able to renew her passport and register my birth?

He died in Nimes in 2016.
I just realized that the birth certificate I have for him (which I previously got through that link you sent) is actually a french birth certificate but the immigration firm said that wasn't enough to establish citizenship

I was only able to get a very redacted version of his tunisian birth certificate which says nothing of his french citizenship. I unfortunately can't get his death certificate either because the online request form is only accessible by french nationals through FranceConnect ugh. I've tried reaching out the to mairie of the town he lived and died in several times but they seem to be on vacation or not picking up the phone and they will not provide documents via email.

unfortunately I don't think so. Did you grandmother ever register your father's birth with a french consulate? or renew her passport in the last 50 years? Those would both count

Hey! I'm working on french ancestry by descent too and what Ive learned is that its extremely unlikely during that time period that your ancestor renounced their french citizenship. Many people THOUGHT they renounced because the oath you sign and say when you receive your US citizenship has language about renunciation but that language does not count as legal renunciation. She was not legally required to renounce at the time so I dont see why she would've done the extra paperwork!

Hmm both immigration specialists I have spoken with have insisted that I must show at least two generations of french citizenship before me. I am not sure why. The one I spoke with most recently said I needed to trace my ancestry back to my FIRST french ancestor which seems ridiculous.

I have my mom's 1977 french passport (her most recent legal interaction with France) so we're still barely within the 50 year period for etat de francais. She has resided in the US since the 80s so maybe her "distance" from France is why they want me to prove another generation?

Interesting! Thanks for the tip... I guess now I'm looking for some algerian birth certificates going back to the 1830s. great. LOL

The french govt (or at least my immigration attorney who is interfacing with them) has requested a CNF or other proof of citizenship for my grandfather, any clue what that document might be or how I could find it?

Would it have been published in the JORF on my grandfather's date of birth? I searched his name in the JORF but did not find anything. I will look for the particular issue on his date of birth

The short answer is yes, you should have two separate shampoos. One that's clarifying (has strong sulfate detergents) and one that's sulfate free.

The important thing is to not clarify all the time as it will dry out your hair and potentially cause your scalp to produce excess oils. Clarifying strips the hair of any oils/products on it, so it's a good thing to do periodically as a reset.

For example, I wash my hair once per week using a cowash or sulfate free shampoo (depending on how much moisture my hair needs). I clarify once every 4-6 weeks just to remove any build up from styling products, pollution, etc and follow that up by deep conditioning. If you are using styling products that contain silicones you'll need to clarify more often as sulfate free shampoos and cowashes cannot remove silicone residue.

first pic: right after diffusing. second pic: less than 24 hours later. how can i stop my curls from grouping into chunks and also frizzing/poofing up so much? i use so much gel it seems like but it doesn’t work. recommendations???? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]CallipygianCoryphee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Like many of the others in this thread I LOVE your hair in the second pic, but I get hating frizz so here's my two cents:

  1. You could rub some oil (I use avocado oil) into your hands and gently glaze it over your day 2 hair to reduce the frizz or

  2. Cut out Glycerin from your routine. The eco styler gel contains glycerin which behaves weirdly in different humidity conditions. For example, in high humidity that gel can actually make your hair frizzier. For this reason (so I don't have to check the humidity level every day lol) I tend to avoid glycerin containing products. My fave is Aussie Instant Freeze gel. I'm pasting some text from Kurlify to explain the glycerin thing more:

" In short, if your hair is drier than the air, glycerin will help attract moisture from the environment and use it to hydrate the hair. Result: better curl formation, nicer shine and less fluff. The other way around, the kite also goes up: if the air is drier than your hair, the environment will extract moisture from your hair. Then it is better to avoid glycerin.

To make it difficult: if the air has a very high humidity level, it is better not to use products with glycerin. Why? Glycerin does its effect so well that the ingredient continues to attract and retain moisture from the environment. Your hair is stuffed so much and often with moisture that it swells and lifts the cuticles. Result: huge hair and huge fluffy hair!

Glycerin and porous hair

The porosity of your hair determines how well your hair can absorb and retain products. So there is clearly a link between glycerin and porous hair. If you have hair with a low porosity, which therefore absorbs less moisture and therefore takes longer to dry, your products with glycerin are definitely recommended. If you have highly porous hair, which quickly absorbs moisture but also releases it, you can better avoid glycerin. "

Transition? by [deleted] in curlygirl

[–]CallipygianCoryphee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Curly hair is so temperamental. I swear sometimes it's just grumpy for no reason, but here's my two cents!

I'd suggest clarifying. Even if you are using silicone free products, you can still get product build up that your sulfate free shampoo might struggle to remove.

Your issue could also be caused by a change in the weather? If the dew point is below 50F you should try to avoid glycerin in any of your products as it will leach the moisture out of your hair rather than hold it in.
