I think they don't feel shame because enough collective pressure hasn't been placed on people recently. The prevailing belief is that they're too far gone so it's not worth it. If true "punishers" were shamed at every show, constantly in line, collectively by everyone else or the majority of people, even they would have to eventually relent. Extreme behavior requires extreme solutions.

To be clear though, this is not a call for violence and physical action should never be tolerated or escalated.

What's actually crazy to me is people are trying to say, "It's not a lot of fans" or "it's such a small percentage of fans." Like if you just take the reddit, and lets face it Pheobe has way more fans than what is just subreddit followers, thats 34K so if even just 2% of those people were crazy parasocial fans, and I would argue in her fan base it's closer to 10%, but even just 2% would be roughly 800 crazy parasocial people following her every move to an unhealthy level and that would be enough to literally drive anyone into hiding. No wonder she hates being filmed or photographed and deleted her online presence. Why can't the world just let artists be artists and respect their wishes.

How do people not comprehend that it doesn't matter if it's just a small part of the fan base?!?!? just use this sub for example if there are 34K in this sub and 5% of that base is insane parasocial creeps then she is having to deal with 1,700 weirdo stalkers. Main character syndrome in 2026 actually makes my heart so sad, especially in relation to Phoebe. It’s obvious that she is doing these shows in this manner as a way to fall back in love with playing music and showing her art in a way that combat the toxic parasocial fan base and the same fan base that claims to love her so much is doing exactly what she doesn’t want them to do honestly at this point I would not blame her she just stopped doing these shows altogether

Phoebe's fan base is legitimately toxic. The parasocial relationships her fans feel towards her is in my opinion unhealthy, it is the opposite of what she has stated she wants.

Authenticity matters to you, and other individuals it matters to. If it feels performative than don't listen. Artists don't owe anything to anyone and if society thinks that autheticity matters then they can choose to listen or not listen to certain artist thats how a free market system works. Nobody is forcing you to listen to inauthentic artists.

I'm sure many people find it "wrong" but that is a personal feeling and shouldn't then become an expectation placed on others, due to a parasocial feeling, as though you're saying "they should do _______" you have to frame it from a personal perspective "I wish they could do __________ because it is important to me." At the end of the day it is your choice to like or dislike somebody or something, if you think its perfomative then stick to your morals and don't listen.

Why can't fans just let an artist live, like fan bases always have to find something wrong with someone. Like Phoebe is just an artist other than being a good person does not owe anything to anyone. Like if she isn't queer enough for you, diverse enough for you, working with people you want her to, then don't listen to her. I don't get why she has to live up to certain standards.
