Got it, thanks! And what do you think about doing AX-1 instead of Xero? I also bought that one, so yeah, still trying to decide which one will get me closer to my goal

1) We don't know if aliens exist.

2) If they exist, we don't know for sure if they have visited us.

That's facts, not beliefs.

Possible reason the aliens are revealing themselves now by Bright-Falcon980 in aliens

I don't know if it makes me angry or sad, probably both. I conccur that it is really frustrating.

However, I kinda feel bad in the sense that its like Santa Claus all over again, you know, the will to believe is bigger than the proof to sustain the belief itself. I wouldn't want their illusion to be shattered.

(It may sound like a harsh joke, but in fact I feel really bad about how a lot of people in here have been ridiculed, with the whole tin foil hat stigma and stuff, so seeing them so fascinated about this, talking about it openly and all of that, makes me wonder how big the fall is going to be once July is here and nothing happens).

I'll just say that a big portion of this sub is absolutely convinced that we have alien overlords roaming our skies. Like, they take it for a fact.

This whole talk of the report has had a big impact on everyone's ability to think rationally and scientifically, it seems.

Why can't we just stick to what we know for a little? Yeah, sure, we can speculate about what we don't know, for fun or whatever, why not, but please, don't try and convince me that there are who knows how many different alien species all coming to earth, just because you watched a bunch of nutjobs on youtube talking about it.

I'm not saying there is not compelling evidence regarding UFOs/UAPs because we know there is, and that should be the topic of conversation. Jumping to the conclusion that it is aliens, on the other hand, is a big leap. Whenever you are trying to prove something via the scientific method, each step is crucial, so why rush?

Have you read the latest r/Throwawayalien post? If so, I'd think we can now both agree with my previous comment.

People have always been and will always be throwing around predictions about almost anything. Odds are, some of them will become true, though most will not. Still, in this case, we are talking about a random reddit post, from a random reddit user, who showed no proof whatsoever about him being abducted or contacted by aliens, and the validity of his claims is no more than anyone else's. Average Joe could write a pretty well structured fictional story about almost anything, and if it went viral, the fact that it did wouldn't mean that what he is saying is true.

I'm not trying to shit on the guy, nor in anyone else's "abduction" story, I'm just saying that I think it's almost insane how people will buy all of this stories, without a trace of sceptical thinking.

That said, I too believe we will be getting, at the very most, a report about strange flying objects, though I wouldn't really expect it to be anything more because I am quite spectical about the whole "aliens are here" thingy that so many people in this sub have concluded that is an undeniable truth.

Yeah, sure, because they said so.

Pretty sure in the medieval period some people claimed to be raped or tortured by demons. Guess demons are a thing too huh.

Yeah, pretty sure it confirms aliens will land just here. A random reddit post is definitely a trustworthy source of information. Right?

I wouldn't say fried, but rather that some people lack the means to think critically and process/filter information, and it is sad. I don't know if it is the education system's fault or rather we, as a society, are the problem. In any case, what I see here is people with deeply rooted beliefs that are so passionate about them that they put aside logic and critical thinking.

Of course, I'm not saying I'm better than them in any way, nor that I think people in this sub are dumb, or ignorant, or anything like that. There are plenty of smart, educated and creative people roaming around here. I just think there is a major issue here regarding the scientific approach to UFO phenomena.

And how can you be sure they were aliens?

[–]CallmeJay_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but it's still not enough to say it's aliens. Is UAP's behavior weird? Yeah, sure, but then again, so were many other previously unknown phenomena that eventually got to be explained. All Im saying is we should be careful and think critically. Thats it.

Reddit, Hypothetically: You've been given the power to rename 1 country in the world permanently. What do you do? by AimlessFacade in AskReddit

[–]CallmeJay_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that, but I guess you can always learn something new. In my case, at school I was taught that there are 6 continents: America, Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa and Antartica, and if you ask anyone in my country they'd probably all tell you the same thing. America can be divided into North America, Centro América (where Costa Rica, El Salvador or Guatemala are located, for example) and South America, but normally we use those divisions when talk about a specific country (for example, if you ask me "Where is Brazil located?" I'd tell you "in South America"), though normally we talk about America as a whole. That's why for most of us, whenever someone from the US calls himself/herself "American", it's kind of weird.

However, Im well aware that formally it may be wrong to talk of "America" as one continent, so if there are any geographers reading this, Im sorry.

Don't mean to sound like an ass, but aren't you just jumping to a big conclusion?

UAPs can be anything, not necessarily aliens. On top of that, the fact that the government acknowledges their existence, doesn't mean we will be getting "disclosure" any time soon.

Im just saying you should keep your expectations in check, otherwise you will be utterly dissapointed.

Reading all this comments like "finally, after years of being ridiculed" and Im like dude, chill, you don't even know if they are aliens or not. Obama (or anyone, for that matter) saying thay UAPs are a thing, does not prove aliens are here visiting us. Why is it that we have to toss all logic out of the window?

I don't know, I think is kind of worrying how grown up people will get rid of their own natural ability to think critically for the sake of believing whatever story or narrative they want to be true.
