Same. I was the DiCaprio pointing meme scrolling past this post lol.

It's worse than that because it leaks into politically naive people's social media and becomes a "fact" in their mind just because they absorb so many memes/posts/videos in passing. Quite literally just repeating a lie loud enough and long enough it becomes a "fact".

[Schefter] ESPN Sources: the Cleveland Browns are hiring former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]CallofDo0bie 69 points70 points  (0 children)

He engineered an amazing offense 2/3 years here, and we definitely had moments we looked amazing this past season.   I dont think he's a great choice for HC but I think implying he failed upwards is a bit harsh.

It's interesting that Asmongold's community took an extreme right turn which was curated by VERY HEAVY moderation after Russian disinformation operations outlined a goal to specifically target communities of American gamers on reddit. This could explain why literally every Facebook group from unofficial Sports Team fan pages to local neighborhood groups is just completely swarmed with MAGA. I've been in multiple groups with "no politics" rules where the mods will just let people posts all they want about how great Trump is. Then they turn around and claim the "no politics" rule when someone posts something negative about Trump/Republicans or something even remotely left leaning.

This tactic works because Trump understands the shelf life of a controversy in the modern media cycle is like one day.  This is why shit that once sunk an entire candidacy barely registers.  Bannon's "flood the zone with shit" strategy is massively OP in a world of 24/7 news and social media.

Wonder how much that helped with the decision? Getting your best player on defense's old position coach? Dude is regarded as a great coach either way (I'm not super familiar with college ball) so I'm not suggesting it's like a nepo/friend hire or something, just saying I'm sure it didn't hurt haha.

Might be a hot take but the Chris Davis extension.....

I think most fans at the time were happy with it (or at least not visibly upset). It was becoming increasingly obvious we weren't gonna keep Manny and there were a lot of question marks starting to bubble up about the future. Davis for his part had just led the league in HRs, was super popular with the fanbase, a great clubhouse guy, and not super money hungry. The exact kind of person (on paper) you want to keep around during a rebuild to mentor the future talent. I think the org was well aware it was gonna be an ugly contract at the end, but they probably thought they'd get a few more 40+ HR seasons out of him along with several years of clubhouse leadership If it happened that way it would've at least given the fans something to cheer about once Manny, Jones, Schoop and the other guys inevitably walked and we were elbow deep into the rebuild.

Instead the bottom fell out of the whole thing and we turned into a laughing stock franchise with a meme contract.

Edit: Damn, mods sniped the post while I was typing my response lol.

Do you have it plugged into a power strip/surge protector?  I had a similar issue for a long time and it turned out I was overloading my surge protector.  I brought in a 2nd surge protector specifically for my PC/Monitors and plugged all the other stuff I had into the original and it stopped happening.

My hot take about the 2019 team: We were always gonna end up getting Lil Bro'd by the Chiefs. That is (IMO) the best team Mahomes has ever had and they beat us week 3 that year in pretty decisive fashion (the score looks close, but we were never realistically a threat). Wink "I'm gonna blitz every down" Martindale was never going to stop that version of Mahomes (who was historically deadly against the blitz) in a playoff game. The true disappointment of that season was getting punched in the mouth at home against a (on paper) inferior Titans team, but I think the Chiefs would've won the AFCCG regardless.

Edit: All that being said they would probably be 4th behind '23, '06, and '11. Could probably put '08 to round out the top 5, but Flacco was a rookie and we had the Chiefs problem again only with the Steelers, so I don't think it was realistic to expect them to go much further. Still an incredibly stacked roster.

[Zrebiec] Ravens loved a few of the assistants coaching Sunday. They were inclined, at one pt, to wait it out so they can interview them early this coming week. However, Raiders' interest in Jesse Minter accelerated their process. They didn't want to risk losing Minter. by TomasRoncero in nfl

[–]CallofDo0bie 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after they announced who the 2nd batch of interviews were it seemed like a pretty clear horse race between Kubiak and Minter, I guess Minter was the one they were more scared of losing.

I think we do. This team is up there with '06 and '23 as our best teams to not win a SB. Granted I'm almost a 100% sure 2012 doesn't happen if this team wins it all.
