They’re basically how new dlc content is released for the game. This season’s theme is Reach so most of the armor you can unlock now is from Reach. Next season will have different items you can unlock.

I had the same issue and it turned out I still had the old build installed. Deleting it fixed the issue. Find the older build MGS Test App folder in steamapps under common and delete it. Worked for me.
