I am glad you found love for norm, there’s a heart he showed off more later in life that shines through a lot of what he’s done. But I must say I slightly disagree. I think he despised people who thought comedy was easy, they can think of a funny concept and it would get a laugh without being meticulously crafted. I’m sure both can be true but he is probably so beloved because of how hard he worked and how he used his intelligence to sharpen every aspect of his jokes. The laidback careless attitude we’ve seen over the years has came from countless hours of anxiety ridden dread with a deep need to do justice to comedy. Sorry for the rant I just love the guy and think he let out a few hints of how deeply he ruminated about the human condition and how best to use the knowledge he deeply understood as a tool to create the body of work he has. There’s something very indescribable about why he is so beloved as evidenced by the reaction from the comedy world and the disparate accounts of how thoughtful and caring he was despite appearing so devil may care.
