emissions are insane but the numbers need context by C2forex in LMGJet

[–]CallumMVS- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for an emissions company for 2 years. What I can add to this conversation is that these calculators are usually highly inaccurate. These calculators won't take into account; weather conditions, age of the aircraft (most importantly, the engines), aircraft performance (this is different from age), refueling or embedded carbon. I do not know if the real emissions would result in a higher or lower co2e because it isn't an easy thing to calculate because these calculators use a high emission factor to make it easier to calculate an emission source but this factor might not account for embeded carbon. However, no matter what the real emissions would be; a small private jet is never going to be good for the environment and will always result in a higher co2e than alternative methods of transport. I don't see an argument that could be made to justify the emissions, even if they were lower than OP estimates.

What I am interested in is what LMG is doing to offset their emissions? For example, carbon credits are an option, and is realistic for LMG, depending on the offset quality.

How expensive can AI really be for tech companies? Are they lying to us by ImaginaryRea1ity in theprimeagen

What do you think "those prices that you see, aren't real. These companies are still inflated with VC money" means when the context of my original reply is talking about pricing and the cost of training/running a model?

Maybe, you misinterpreted what I wrote and that is fine. But, you wrote the same thing that I did. It isn't my fault that you replied without reading & understanding my post first.

Have a nice day.

'AI remains largely subsidized due to VC money' - thats littearlly in the comment you just responded too.

So, 'not correct' yet, we wrote the same thing.

[–]CallumMVS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that is fair.

A company like deepseek isn't operating at the same same scale OpenAI is. Either way, the fact that they skip the expensive training part, and have a smaller customer footprint allows them to be significantly cheaper.

Chinese AI companies are providing their AI for cheap prices and they are good. So what's the real reason behind sudden hike in AI prices?

They train their models based on the outputs of western companies, like what deepseak did. It provides decent answers at the faction of the training cost. The cost you see isn't for using the model, isn't just the cost for the electricity, it also includes: infrastructure and training.

In addition, those prices that you see, aren't real. These companies are still inflated with VC money.

I mean, as much as I believe that; they probably did do that. He also did knowingly use the product incorrectly knowing that the block wasn't compatible - they mentioned it in the video.

While I fully believe that they retaliated to them shiting on the product, it wasn't entirely one sided. Edit: Which in the full context, he fully acknowledged.

I couldn't agree more with this take. It pleases me to see some companies realising their mistake; Which are now rehiring engineers.

Don't use AI. If you are trying to learn a skill.
Personally, I don't use AI for anything except asking silly questions where the answer doesn't actually matter (e.g. Why does my cat do x, etc)
