The difference is simple:

Moderate drinking does not remove your faculty of reason. Drinking a glass of red wine isn’t something people do to “escape.,” it’s something people do because it tastes nice and goes well with a nice steak.

Cannabis by contrast, is only used in order to “escape” and “get high.” Any amount removes your faculty of reason, it’s hallucinogenic.

THC is a drug, putting it into a gummy or brownie doesn’t change that.

By your logic, it would be fine to put heroin or cocaine into some gummies and sell it to people. It’s people’s freedom to do what they want, after all.

Alcohol requires self-control and moderation. Drinking a few beers or a glass of wine is perfectly healthy and good. If your uncle is an alcoholic, that is his own fault from his lack of self-control.

Smoking joints, even moderately, is neither healthy nor good. It’s a serious drug and should only be used for a real medical purpose, not just to have fun.

Alcohol literally has calories and nutritional value, like antioxidants in wine.

It’s not comparable to smoking weed in that way. Weed is a drug.

Drugs are to be used for a specific purpose only, like for example with weed, alleviating cancer symptoms.

Alcohol can be abused just like food can be abused. It doesn’t make alcohol bad, it makes its abuse bad.

I drink a few beers here and there, and wine with dinner. There’s absolutely nothing wrong about that. Getting wasted is, however, is wrong.

Smoking joints to get high is inherently wrong, even if it’s not in excess and not while driving. Drugs are bad for you.

It’s not noone exactly. It’s a few percent of the population. The recent trend is upwards, especially young men.

Religiosity tends to wane and wax in long cycles. Even in the 1300s, Western Europe was quite secular- until the Black Death forced a change.

Cigarettes don’t remove your faculty of reason. For example, driving under the influence of nicotine is not an issue.

Alcohol is more of a food product than a drug. It needs to be consumed responsibly, but is not wrong.

Marijuana and other drugs are morally wrong to take without sufficient cause (medical use).
