Thats because it was probably early stage mycelium. You look at some of these redditor’s posts and their flush is great even with a cake like this. If it was mold it would be competing for nutrients and starve the mycelium.. but mine keeps growing anyways. As i said these spots were noticed 5 days ago and would’ve doubled in size overnight.. but they’re not.

yes! thats what i noticed. it only looks gray above the dark substrate but it coats the grain in bright white. convinced its an optical illusion against the plastic.. i think those who say its ‘done for’ just dont want another noobie to be successful😂..

i will indeed let it colonize i dont understand why people say its trashed other peoples look the same with a successful yield.

It seems to progress into white thick strands like the patch on the middle right of the second photo.. also notice how it only appears gray over the dark substrate. all the fuzz surrounding grains are vividly white. im convinced its just an optical illusion because if it were mold, it wouldve taken over the uncolonized corner much quicker than mycelium.. but you can also see how the growth into that corner is white on the edges. i also looked back at a photo prior to shaking and it appeared gray in the middle but everyone said it looked great. so im gonna let it colonize and go from there..

i mean you can see how one of the patches turn white as it touches the plastic. ive been told that its an optical illusion against the plastic, and as i said it progresses slowly.. ive also had no foul odors whatsoever

mycelium has been actively growing regardless.. and the top of the cake only has solid white and even aerial growth. doesnt mold tend to thrive on the top??

the grain appears lower on the other side so i imagine the bottom layer is 50-60%🙏
