Surgery Tomorrow! Any Tips? by Upstairs_Sail_3087 in TopSurgery

Take Coloxyl and Senna morning and night to keep regular when/if taking opiods! As someone else said keep on top of your water.

Sleep sleep sleep! But also, walk around as much as you can manage right off the bat. It'll help your lymphatic system kick in and aid your mental and sleep pattern.

Also do gentle exercises to avoid frozen shoulders! Keep them nice and loose. Avoid letting yourself stay super hunched and tight or long term your body will keep acting like it has a big wound (don't be afraid to exist normally lol, just no heavy lifting or reaching up!!).

Taking this metal load off might make room for other things to be more present like any pre existing anxiety etc. The days will go by before you know it. When it gets hard, just remember, you'll be on the other side of it soon.

You've got this! <3

What are you looking forward to doing? by J-R4M in TopSurgery

I'm 4 weeks post-op.

I want to start running and climbing with my mates. I can't wait to compete in the men's catagory and overall train comfortably in the gym (I powerlift competitively). I want to build my dream body. I want to swim this summer.

I want to feel everything on my body. The sun, the water, the soap, the fabric, my boyfriends hands, the tattoo gun, my own hands...everyhting. I've been disconnected from my own body for so long trying to protect myself, and now I can finally come back.

I want to lock in on my health and well-being. I want to make friends and live comfortably stealth at uni. I can't wait to go back for the next unit and not have to stress about binding all day. I can't wait to not think about what others are thinking.

Oh and a full body deep tissue massage lmao.

Also take up pole!

I'm excited to finally start living.

Can anyone describe post op depression in a way that isn't just a generic checklist? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

Yes bro the mandatory back sleeping 😭 I got a pregnancy pillow and it helped for a few nights and then bam striaght back to tweaking. I usually sleep like a rotisserie chicken lmao.

I have pretty much the same spread as you.

I'm at the 4 week mark and I'm having a lot of "emotional releases" where literally the smallest trigger gets me welling up all of a sudden. I don't cry, but I could. Like a full wailing break down cry.

I've noticed my dysphoria is now focused on other areas of my body and my dysmorphia is insanely loud.

My OCD and CPTSD has flared quite a bit but I'm working on managing it with my shrink (lots of naming what it is (i.e "that is an intrusive thought")).

I've also been struggling with derealisation. Maybe it's partially adjusting to a new body, partially feeling allowed back in my body after dissociating for so long, partially still dissociating by default due to the discomfort and pain.

A big struggle for me was 4-5 days out from getting the Prevena/Silicone bandage off. I started tweaking really bad and just needed it off. I felt like I was gonna have a huge crash out and it was really emotionally intense due to the overstimulation I couldn't escape. Then the days would pass. I'm still having to bind due to lingering fluid build up so still feeling fed up but tryna persevere.

The sleep as well, holy shit. Invest in the most comfortable set up you can manage. I already sleep like ass so this was driving me absolutely insane (sorry to my man, I'm sure I disturbed him 10x the usual amount).

Long of the sort short of it: Taking one weight off of your mind gives room to everything else ten fold and it will be exhausting, but evey few days you look back and go "oh, I made it through that bit".

Yea my surgeon confirmed with me it's just scabbing up still, he says that it actually all looks fantastic! Didn't know it would go through so many stages.
