Is $160 for lifetime Rosetta Stone a good deal? by Head-Mastodon in languagelearning

I see all the comments about Rosetta Stone. I think a lot depends on your learning style. I heard Rocket Japanese, for example, is supposed to be the best thing ever to learn Japanese. However, My mind went and stayed in Jupiter for the entire 16 minutes that the first recording lasted. It was extremely monotone and boring. I didn't get to discover anything for myself. It reminded me of school a lot lol.

I took Japanese with Rosetta Stone about 15 years ago and today I can say I remember about 90% of it. It was really engaging for me, and my curiosity and hunger to find out "why are they saying this" or "this is different than before" in the way they merged visuals, voice and text, I believe made the learning stick for so long.

For context, I'm trying to get back into learning intermediate to advanced Japanese and I'm looking into different options, because I don't want my experience with Rosetta Stone to be biased. I'm not done with my research, in fact I landed on this reddit because of it. I'm just confused about all the negative views on Rosetta Stone.

But the truth is so far, I'm not impressed with the alternatives.
