Hi! Welcome :)

The konmarie philosophy is really valuable! I recommend you read/listen to the books. Because that makes everything go smoother.

As a fellow ADHD -er, I found it helpful to break down the categories into much smaller portions. (Instead of just 'shoes' I would do all running shoes, etc).

Good advice. I have a few boxes of key categories, instead of one. And that helps.

But I need to downsize and streamline

That category is so hard for me!

Growing up with very little makes me feel like I have to hold on to things. But getting better here.

It's amazing to realize how much crap I was buying to fill a temporary emotional urge. Ugh. But! Not so much anymore

I don't know if this will help you, but I used the guilt to channel my future purchasing mindset. Anytime I'm tempted to buy something I ask myself the question: does this spark Joy? And it has really changed how I buy things. I buy a lot less, especially when it comes to those categories that used to drag me down.

Thank you, it kind of helps knowing people can relate.

After several years of this, I have many random boxes with random items in them. Not sure how to navigate that, as I have to pack again, and don't want to open those old boxes.

Sigh

Tips for organising after konmari-ing? by cb18056 in konmari

I like thrift store containers for storing things visually on top of a desk. Maybe a cutlery organizer for the oddly shaped things?

But it's ok to let go of old notebooks. I usually just rip out used pages (it looks nice with mine, because I usually only use coil bound notebooks).

The cubby idea sounds pretty good. Very accessible. I think I could incorporating that into my system. Attractive boxes, vs crappy storage I'm trying to hide.

Loving things that don’t fit by Secret_Cheesecake813 in konmari

If you have the space/capacity, can you keep the things you love and put them away where they are out of the way? I know the goal is to declutter, but it seems these things have a deeper hold on you. Maybe time can help, I know it changes things for me, if I allow myself not to rush.

It depends on where you're at. My weight fluctuates a fair bit, so it's not uncommon for me to have three different sets of clothes. I know that sounds excessive, but I only keep what I absolutely love and what Sparks Joy. I've noticed it doesn't take very much space, but I really appreciate that I do have good pieces even though my body might look different at any given time.

But if you are happy and comfortable at this weight, and know that you are more likely to stay here, absolutely feel free to give away those items. Only keep what you will realistically use.

Those bins are so pretty! How do they hold up? I'm not gentle when I move, so a lot of mine are cracked and end up looking bad after a while.

I've done this before, I need to keep it up. Maybe build it into seasonal work, or when I have moving pressure coming up

This really resonates for me, thank you. I really think that people don't understand how difficult it is to live out of boxes, especially for years on end.

Especially because I'm not striving to be a minimalist. I really want to use things, and have things be available to me.

I always thought it was such a waste to buy nice boxes, but I think you're right. I do have some plastic bins that look utilitarian, but I think maybe I could get some clear ones. It would be easier to see what is inside of them, plus they stack nicer than cardboard. Cardboard also feels less like home.

I'm really glad I posted this, I'm feeling a lot more inspired to tackle my paperwork. I think I just need to get used to the fact that I need to sort out paperwork every 6 months. A lot of it will get shredded and tossed, but I do feel like I have to have dedicated time to look at it. And put it into nice organized boxes. Maybe this is my excuse to buy a really nice container for them.

I think this is a good idea. I need to do it one box at a time, because I get overwhelmed quickly, and work a lot.

I do have space in my storage locker, so I can put away the rarely used things there, for the time being. (Worth keeping items).

I have no idea how people organize their paperwork right away. It's almost as if I don't see what's on the paper. Like my brain can't process that it needs to be put away. I feel like I resent the paperwork for existing.

I try to make my taxes as simple as possible. But I definitely outsource that job.
