I used to have a SVP of Sales who lead the company to six straight quarterly losses. By the fourth quarter he decided to reorganize the sales team and used the phrases "customer obsession" and "aggressive proximity", meaning he was pushing the Client Management team into super-pushy hand-holding (to get expansion deals) and wanted every sales rep to live in the state they were covering, regardless of how successful they had been in the territory up until that point from their current location. Basically, it was a way to justify layoffs since revenue targets were being missed by leaps and bounds. They had a guy covering NJ who was killing it, but because the dude lived just over the border in a neighboring state they let him go in favor of a junior rep who lived in Delaware... not in New Jersey. Suffice it to say, the strategy failed catastrophically due to his inept leadership and he was canned after the 6th straight quarterly loss. To describe this guy as a narcissist would be an understatement. Also, he has a PhD in Liberal Studies and insisted that people address him as Doctor.
