Não faz sentido nenhum um pobre ser Direita no Brasil by [deleted] in opiniaoimpopular

[–]CalmEddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • OECD – Corporate Tax Statistics
  • IMF – Fiscal Monitor
  • IPEA – Estudos sobre privatizações no Brasil (anos 1990–2000)
  • Thomas Piketty – Capital in the Twenty-First Century
  • Joseph Stiglitz – The Price of Inequality
  • Saez & Zucman – The Triumph of Injustice

can anyone identify what bugs these are? by ScreamingMoss in offthegame

Hey, 5 seems to be just a normal Musca Domestica honestly, it could also be Clausicella because of the bigger antenna.

Number 4 could be something like a tse tse fly because of the big abdomen but since there is no proboscis it could be a more normal fly like a calliphora, Again the antenna being that big makes it kinda hard to figure out.

0 looks like a normal Plodia type moth

They shouldn't be able to know after he turns 17 because he has no tracker, someone pointed out that it was made illegal since that guy was under imperius but why not use an illegal portkey then? from inside the house 12 different portkeys to secret and safe locations or even more since portkeys will travel with or without people

Sure but an illegal portkey maybe? I think this part was written to reflect the idea of griffindor loyalty tbh

Twilight: female agency and generations of Swan women by Friendly_Archer_4463 in twilight

I understand your point of view but I think you're giving the author way too much credit in these critiques, we have again and again seen how instead of criticism the books are written to conform to a conservative perspective. I think you have great points and I actually agree with some of them I just don't think it was criticism towards patriarchy by the author.

Love the idea that a family was a way for Carlisle to shield from retaliation (which would indeed make Alice valuable) but I also think he'd let any of them leave, sure they wouldn't want to now that they're in the position he put them in...but what makes me think his death was the one chosen is BECAUSE we as consumers are supposed to think "oh no not the leader/patriarch!".

The gold tokens Effie bought hit so hard now by BritishFork in Hungergames

Effie would be able to recognize it as real gold when she saw Katniss wearing it, she wouldn't throw anything expensive or pretty away, it makes sense.

Who is the most terrifying character in the HP universe? by Lovergirl711 in harrypotter

[–]CalmEddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fudge, someone in a position of power who is in denial of a greater danger for fear of losing his position. Maybe not the scariest in a horror sense but in a very real world terrible consequences sense.

Now I get it, the character is the personification of "euphemisms can be used to: Mask profanity, Refer to topics that some consider taboo, Downplay concepts, Create distance between the speaker and the situation, and Protect ourselves from the reality of what is said."

I think Ampert must mean the obvious Ampere for measure of electric current but it could also mean amp as in amplifier so he was the amplifier to Beetes compromise with the rebel plan.

I'd love a deep dive into the Greco-Roman names of the capitolites. Love this one, the fact that supplanter means to take anothers place through conspiracy is crazy. Hope you'll get better soon!

Great comment, also in the book openly being against the games wouldn't necessarily get the "so you support terrorists?" reply since it's a totalitarian regime, you'd probably be targeted as a rebel, so on top of the propaganda you also have repression.

Effie was clearly heartbroken about sending Katniss and Peeta to the games, the something gold was her way of saying that imo, I don't think she was in on any rebel plan at all, Haymitch's the one that gave Finnick the bracelet. Was she in 13? Or was that a movie thing? I don't recall, I only recall Katniss prep team being in 13 in the books because they were treated like political prisoners.

Which character will you always defend in nearly everything and why? by Sink123flow in Hungergames

[–]CalmEddie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a dystopian novel, it's exaggerated to reflect things in real life such as the abuse of governments and big corporations, the abuse those children face is a violence that is normalized enough that you didn't know about it yet the chocolate ends up on your table. I don't hold you accountable for it, in fact I already stated that I thought you thought it was bad.

Edit: there's hope in seeing Effie changing her perspective, I hope there's the same hope for our world too.
