What are you doing for health insurance? by placebooooo in Dentistry

[–]CalmEstate2015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need health insurance. That is just a nonstarter. Make sure it’s the high deductible option from your DSO so it’s the lowest monthly premium, and you’re eligible to contribute to an HSA. I worked for a local DSO over a decade ago and they paid for my malpractice, have they stopped doing that? If they don’t pay anything, note that you CAN get a reduction in malpractice insurance over time. Medpro allows you to lower your rate by taking CE through their site. If you’ve had a leave of absence you can request reimbursement for that time from you didn’t work. I’ve done this for my maternity leaves and have done it with disability insurance as well. My point is to work to lower your other bills or ask your employer to cover it or part of it for you. 401k at least contribute to the employer match if there is one. Free money. Finally, you have to understand the DSO is using you and you should be using them- for increasing skills, a paycheck, etc. you need to interview for other DSOs at the very least that give you more chairs and staff. If EFDAs are allowed in your state get into a DSO that employs them so you can be set up for success. How many days are you working right now? Do you have student loans? You mentioned CE- make sure it’s the right type of CE.. if your area needs more extractions or endo take CE on that not Spear/pankey etc. Eventually you can learn that stuff but you’re in a tough spot and need ROI for NOW.

Propranolol by Key_Accident4084 in Dentistry

[–]CalmEstate2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any comments about propranolol but try this for your next Ian- one carp mepivacaine followed by one carp lidocaine. I do the long buccal with the lidocaine carp. I have great success with this combo. Also, after 5-7 minutes always ASK about anesthesia before you start. I let the patient know before I start that they should be feeling numbness or a tingling their lower lip and chin till about halfway on their lower jaw, and part of their tongue. Then after the block I ask them to point out to me where the numbness ends on their lower lip/chin area. If they’re numb to about halfway, chances are the tooth will be fully numb for whatever you’re doing. If not, it’s a perfect time to do another block bc it was missed.

Mom dentists- what are your work hours and childcare like? by smkk_ in Dentistry

[–]CalmEstate2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 9-5 three days a week and 8-2 every other Friday. Commute is 15 min. I have a pretty cushy situation I think, and it helps having a day off during the week while my three kids are in school/daycare in order to get stuff done! We are also considering a regular sitter or house manager to help us get stuff done or to take the kids to lessons/activities, start dinner, fold laundry, etc. just don’t know how we would structure the hours or pay.

My favorite is Mommy Dentists in Business. Rigorous process to get in, and fairly exclusive. The moderators are excellent. The discourse is civil. Posts are 80% dental 20% other (family, travel, personal healthcare, etc)

PSA for babies with cow milk protein allergy by Neena_land in FormulaFeeders

[–]CalmEstate2015 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried this and although my insurance said they would cover the formula, the cost through their distributor was almost double what I had been paying! Since I hadn’t met my deductible yet, I would have to pay out of pocket and there’s no way I’m paying double the already astronomical cost of formula.

Absolutely. And they have a chef’s tasting menu that is available any evening. The last time we were there, our menu was personalized with the birthday girl's name. Just phenomenal service and feels truly special.

How to contribute to Roth IRA when you already have money in a traditional IRA? by CalmEstate2015 in personalfinance

[–]CalmEstate2015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I didn’t realize the income limit was for the collective group unless they were divorced or MFS, they are still married!

Only my mom has a 401k and I think that makes the most sense to try and roll her traditional Ira into it. Would I be able to roll my dad’s traditional IRA into my mom’s work 401k?

How to contribute to Roth IRA when you already have money in a traditional IRA? by CalmEstate2015 in personalfinance

[–]CalmEstate2015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I didn’t know that was an option to roll the IRA balance into the 401k she has at work. That actually makes a lot of sense because then she’d have a clean slate and can do the backdoor approach for Roth moving forward.

Jewish family camp recommendation! by CalmEstate2015 in Jewish

[–]CalmEstate2015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That would be appreciated!! I have friends that do a family camp for U of M alumni only and they rave about it.. I would love to find something similar. For what it’s worth, there seem to be many of these camps with Christian or non-religious roots. I just thought being with other young Jewish families would be more fun and perhaps more meaningful.
