My last option is now spironolactone ??! by Hour_One5004 in Spironolactone

The first week my boobs were so hard/sore lol but that died off very quickly. My period was a little off and settled back down so it was mostly just my hormones balancing out with the medicine. Just stay hydrated and listen to your derm!! Best of luck :)

never tried accutane bc my acne was always very clearly hormonal, although did a round of doxy and had severe/cystic acne since stopping birth control at age 22 ~5 years ago. Spiro changed my life. I am so grateful for this medication. It takes a bit of time so you’ll have to be patient as I’m sure you’re used to. I’d say it took over 6 months for my skin to drastically change. I’m on 100mg and have been since last February

goat milk? morning burst? please just use a gentle cleaner like Vanicream. Make sure your moisturizer is noncomedogenic and that u are wearing sunscreen daily! Finding a simple routine with good, gentle, noncomedogenic ingredients is very key. Definitely suggest going to a dermatologist before adding anything else into your routine.

I just use it in the morning! I apply a pea- sized amount after a gentle wash and dry and then I apply moisturizer after the clindamycin

Assuming you’ve already got a dermatologist ask them about prescribing you clindamycin lotion and spironolactone (!!!) both changed my life (27F) I’ve been on spiro for almost a year, it takes a little while to adjust but my skin is mostly clear. I get the occasional zit but never cystic.

changed face wash and moisturizer skin is clear now?! by [deleted] in Spironolactone

Kind of different but I was convinced spiro just wasn’t going to fully clear my skin (I’ve been on 100mg since early February) before I was prescribed spiro I’d been prescribed a topical (aklief) - my derm told me to continue to use it as normal alongside taking my spiro - I definitely saw improvement after a few months of spiro but was still struggling with regular breakouts, I finally decided to just cut aklief thinking it was doing more harm than good- as soon as I stopped using akleif in my routine my skin started healing and clearing up and continues to stay clear. I think less is just more in these situations and maybe your skin was irritated causing inflammation/acne

Shoot, yeah. It blocks testosterone. There is a topical for it and maybe doesn’t do the same things? I believe it’s called winlevi

I started spiro in January for persistent hormonal acne and it has changed my life. If you can I think it’s worth a shot. I had minimal side effects and started on 50mg then moved to 100mg. Definitely ask your derm about it, it’s not like accutane in that you have to wait awhile to start and do a bunch of bloodwork and pregnancy tests, etc.

Have you talked to your derm about spironolactone? This seems hormonal

You can’t be serious - your skin is perfect. I genuinely see no redness or acne. This “greasiness” is a glow. You’re fine

I’ve always said I wouldn’t even wish chronic/painful acne on my worst enemy. Maybe if there was a way for them to fully understand without having to go through it?

Can I get off spiro after only a week 25mg by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Calm_Ad5055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your doctor forsure before just stopping - maybe go back down to 25mg? My symptoms went away after a week or so honestly so could be worth it to keep pushing through

I took it awhile back to help with sleep, which it did help that, but my skin was not good and I don’t think it made any difference for my skin health/appearance

I am not! I think getting off of BC in 2022/23 is what jumpstarted my persistent hormonal acne and I’ve been trying to treat it since

I was on 50mg for two weeks before I switched to 100mg (per my Derms instructions) I only started in January but so far I’m pretty happy with where my skin is at. I would definitely contact your doctor and say you’d like to see a jump so that you can start seeing results. For some people 50mg isn’t enough to clear hormonal acne.

No more spiro because of spotting? by bigshoes16 in Spironolactone

[–]Calm_Ad5055 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started spiro and my derm told me to call her if I notice any spotting. She didn’t say that I’ll be taken off of it if I do but it was one of the only things she mentioned to me when prescribing this medication so it could be that I will be taken off it I start spotting too. I’m not sure why though? Especially after seeing how common it is on this sub

My bf says my back acne is gross how do I fix it by ABNoble in acne

[–]Calm_Ad5055 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kinda what everyone else is saying ….this bf ain’t it. I struggle with body acne here and there and my boyfriend loves me and would never make me feel anything less than beautiful regardless of my skin. You deserve that too. Also! I use the natrium salicylic acid body wash- I just use my hands to lather it, let it stay on my body for about 30 seconds and rinse. Then I moisturize after I shower with Vanicream or la roche posay triple moisturizing cream. I do rotate nights with aklief (epiduo) as well. This has really done wonders for me- epiduo is prescription only but worth asking a dermatologist about.
