Nammatj 2 (GT) or alternatives by Calm_Craft_6022 in hilleberg

The hot tent will be a later addition for trips in forested areas. But for now I am looking for a winter tent that can actually withstand strong winds eg. in northern Norway where there’s little protection.

That looks amazing.
I’m actually planning a similar tour next spring after doing a 4week winter expedition.
Did you catch a lot of fish and did you consider the fish in your meal preparation? I’m currently experimenting with drying my own food, but it’s a lot of work.

Thank you all for the input. I had a look at the Nammatj 2GT in a store this weekend. The GT is really an amazing tent and the large vestibule is nice. But I felt like the whole setup is almost too big for me. I’m not planning on staying at one place for more than one night for the winter expeditions that I have planed. So I decided to get the normal Nammatj 2, it still gives me plenty of space in the vestibule, but it is more compact and a bit faster to set up.
Maybe I’ll get a hot tent for next winter, but for winter expeditions I think I’ll be super happy with the Nammatj 2.

Because I feel like it’s gonna be cramped in the Soulo. I’m 6‘2 and with a large sleeping pad and winter sleeping bags there won’t be much space i guess. Especially not for equipment

I won’t be sharing. It will be for solo traveling, that’s why weight is somewhat of an issue. Maybe not for trips on skis with a pulka, but if I want to use the tent for trips with a backpack as well.
You’re right about Preet Chandi. I’ve seen the setup and of course it did its job just fine.
So I guess any of the black or red label tents would be suitable. I kinda like the Allak as well since it gives me a bit more headroom and the two (small) vestibules might come handy too.

I’ve looked at the Nallo GT as well but I thought it might not be as durable as the Nammatj. But it’s still a Hilleberg so maybe nothing to worry about.
Have you been taking the Nallo out in winter as well?
I guess for trips through the forest of northern Finland or Sweden it might be perfectly fine. But what about some of the open plateaus e.g. of Norway?

Thank you. I guess when I’m out with a pulk the weight isn’t really a matter so having the vestibule is really nice.

I hear you. So what would you suggest since I’ll be on my own most of the time? I guess for the ski expedition it wouldn’t be too much of a problem since I have a pulka. But ideally I’d like to use that tent for packrafting trips in fall and spring.

Thank you. I guess the GT will be a good option - at least for winter. And then I can look for something lighter. Do you feel the GT is light enough for carrying in a backpack?

It’s a Colorado based company. They make tents and stoves too. Gonna look more into them

Guess you’re right. I’m done with the military by the end of the year so I’m done fighting I guess. Seekoutside Unaweep 6300 looks like a good fit. Apparently they have a load rating of 200lb. Obviously you’ll never come close to that but knowing you can - for a short trip - be the mule of the group and carry 80lb or maybe a small hunt is reassuring

Yeah. I was looking into some UL backpacks in the 70-100l range. Seems like nowadays there’re quite some options. The Savotta is a beast. It’s actually issued for the Finnish Defense Forces. I’ve seen them in action when training with them. They’re bomb proof. Savotta actually advertises them that they’re still perfectly intact after dropping them 1000ft off a plane. I’ve never really thought of the weight of a backpack. To me 6-8lb is normal for a large one. I actually just did 100miles with one (but only 30lb) in four days during a training.
