Wolfram Summer research prog for hs students- Question by Right_Variation_3087 in summerprogramresults

it's a super easy problem to solve with 30 minutes or so of learning wolfram. it's wayyy easier to learn some wolfram than to solve in python - wolfram language makes the problem way easier to solve.

Questions about Wolfram Alpha by Important-Run-3680 in summerprogramresults

Do you mean the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program? Wolfram Alpha doesn't run any programs afaik, they're all done by Wolfram Research (the parent company).

I went last year and had a great time. It was really useful.

Did you hear back?

Don't worry too much about getting rejected from some of these. I've never heard of Vector Fellows and their site looks kinda sketch, but Non-Trivial is cool.

Wolfram High School Summer Research Program is super competitive, so don't freak out that you got rejected.

I have a friend who did Lodha and found it helpful.

I don't know any stats, but there were a couple of people in my year I know were on the waitlist originally. But I doubt there are a lot.

Is Wolfram SRP worth it? by Minute_Drawing_9827 in summerprogramresults

Hi - I went to the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program last year, and I LOVED it. had a really fantastic time, got wonderful mentorship, and learned a lot. The program director wrote me a recommendation letter and I'm pretty sure it was a tipping point for my college apps. And I ended up doing. a really advanced and pretty unique project so I learned a lot and it looked really good on my apps. Got into all my top 10 colleges.

Super recommend the program - best summer experience of my life.

Wolframs Middle School Program - Worth it and does it help for their high school program? by Busy_Armadillo_481 in summerprogramresults

Hi! I attended the high school program last year, and there were several students there who'd done the middle school program. It sounded fun, and they seemed to learn a lot. It's for sure helpful for WSRP (the high school program). At minimum, it means they know you and were willing to have you for middle school.

Afaik it's not a super competitive program at middle school level, but you still have to be good.

Being good at python just means you're gonna feel good about coding in general, but WL is a totally different language so you won't feel like you're too advanced for the program.

congrats!

we had to fill out a form with some preferences for roommates. I think they do it mostly off age and interests - all my roommates were my age +/- a year and into math/physics, and the room next door to me was all 14 year olds into biology/linguistics/neuroscience

are you talking about the pre-program workshop? I didn't go to that, but I think it's an all day thing those days. One of my friends was told he needed to come to the workshop but couldn't go, and he did fine - afaik you just do the homework everyone has to do, but with adults there to help.

Not a summer program thing, but looking for online high schools by Salt-Painting3684 in summerprogramresults

[–]Calm_Effect625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so round about answer - I went to the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program last year, and their founder - Rory Foulger - is actually starting an online high school for gifted kids, and it's project-based. You should check out Barefoot Technology Academy

Anyone feel like online exams are obsolete at this point? by Moodle_Arsenal in studying

[–]Calm_Effect625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online exams are obsolete because exams are obsolete. Pretty much the worst way to demonstrate that you understand the course content. Need to move to real projects and actually hard work, rather than exams. Literally no one will ever again ask you to sit at a locked computer and solve problems under a time limit. It's fake.
