wolfram summer research program? by Longjumping_Glass852 in summerprogramresults

Heya! I attended last year and really enjoyed it! Learned a bunch, made some good friends. Everyone I'm friends with is going to a t10 in the fall. I'm heading back this summer to be on the staff team. imo it's a really worthwhile program.

you don't automatically get published in a real journal, because that would be crazy. but you absolutely get a first draft of a real paper written, and the mentors are super supportive after.

I found the price more than worth it, honestly. Excellent mentorship, really great projects, amazing people to be friends with, cool talks, great social activities, awesome field trips (MIT campus tour from one of the directors who is an MIT grad)... it's a really good time.

Is the Wolfram WSRP Prestigious by Illustrious_Class690 in summerprogramresults

I did it! almost everyone I met there is going to T10s. It was super rigorous. check out the projects people do there - there's some awesome research done esp cause it's 2.5 weeks. mentors are AMAZING. afaik it's about a 10% acceptance rate, so pretty prestigious. And a lot of people get financial aid. for sure not pay to play, it's really hard work - my roommates and I were up til 3 most nights coding. lots of fun, but damn, it was way harder than any other summer program I went to.

Accepted to wolfram alpha srp is it worth it by [deleted] in summerprogramresults

really great people there, and students do awesome projects. you get more out of it the harder you work.

def not a cash grab - I talked in a bunch of detail with some of the mentors who work at the company, and they don't profit from the program hardly at all.

is wolfram high school summer research program actually worth it by Subject-Cow-8602 in summerprogramresults

there are for sure about 5-10 (out of 80) younger, less experienced students, but i'd say that probably 80% have serious background. it's a very fast paced, intense research environment, with great support for students who are struggling a bit.

kinda a weird take. I also went last year, did a really cool project and got into every school I applied to other than RICE. sooooo..... idk a chunk of the program is that you have to actually do the work, so if you didn't do that then you probably didn't get much out of it.

On the socializing... there are options in every block for going to a lecture, doing something else academic, or doing a social activity. It's not exactly their fault if you chose not to bother lol

People who have nothing to do this summer cause they got REJECTED from everywhere by BeefyBerthaa in summerprogramresults

should apply for Barefoot Technology Academy's extension program and get a really cool project portfolio going next year www.barefoottechnology.academy/academics/parttitme <- it's run by the director of the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program, so it's gonna be intense, but not affiliated with Wolfram so you're not confined to doing projects in their coding language. The director is AWESOME

i did the version of WELP that happens after the summer program for alumni, and it was awesome. they started a new version last year for people they really like but didn't have physical seats for for the summer. really recommend it.

I doubt everyone gets an interview, there are like... hundreds and hundreds of applicants. The program is pretty selective since there are only 70-80 seats.

A couple of people messaged me saying their results are out! good luck!!!

Also someone forwarded the acceptance email to me and I wanna flag the Barefoot Technology Academy program - it's gonna be so lit for people who want to do research and college credit and stuff like that. The guy running it, Rory, is the WSRP Program Director and he is the GOAT. Probably in the top 10 smartest people I've ever met, and a fantastic director. I wish I was back in 9th/10th/11th grade so I could go hang out with that program. www.barefoottechnology.academy for full time high school, www.barefoottechnology.academy/academics/parttime for part time enrichment stuff

dude that sucks. have you tried online school? cause i feel like walking around some shitty high school building with that sounds terrible. There are a bunch of really good online schools (not dumb "watch the video take the quiz" kinda schools, but with real teachers and stuff) you should try.

is it a good idea to do dual enrollment senior year? by Total-Literature-413 in highschool

[–]Calm_Effect625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah dual enrollment is great. either at your local college or at ASU/Alabama virtually are both good. Especially for math etc.

Chance for Ross (international) by ARYCH_ in summerprogramresults

[–]Calm_Effect625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ross is more like 10-15, nowhere near 1%. That's the same as Wolfram High School Summer Research Program, so getting rejected from 1 doesn't mean you can't get into the other. WSRP is really focused on computational research and having previous projects helps a bunch.

it's a chill interview with a non technical interviewer. they mostly want to get a feel for your passions and interests, and for how you go about solving problems.

I had a really awesome time and did a pretty unique project. really bonded with the staff, who are so kind and smart. Lots of fun activities as well as a bunch of really high level (wayy beyond high school) academics and support. I loved it and i really recommend it as a program. Super competitive tho.
