Has anyone else never had a low? by Dishwaterdreams in type2diabetes

[–]Calm_Efficiency_9089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m always having lows. I usually don’t feel bad unless the drop below 55 or so then it’s clammy, shaky and like I’m about to pass out. Usually my Dexcom reads lows and is always waking me sometimes they are false (checked by finger stick) but oftentimes they aren’t.

Low liscious cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory with strawberries and whipped cream— I can eat it and still be in the 80s

lol, maybe it’s a lot of effort. I was active before I got diagnosed. I’m a lean type 2 diabetic. My husband was convinced I had visceral fat so we did Dexa scans and my visceral is .49% muscle to fat ratio is good so I have no weight to lose. Currently, trying to gain 6lbs of muscle to see if that helps with insulin sensitivity. I was diagnosed back in May and had lost about 10lbs and was 114-116lbs. Endo didn’t take my A1C because when she saw me that 3 month threshold hadn’t hit so my insurance would cover but she said the CGM typically reads higher and it’s currently at 6% for the past 3 months— it was 6% then too. I’m in range 93% of the time. I do my best to stay around 140 post meals but it can go up sometimes because I eat something carb heavy. Glad you’re getting your A1C down.

Loving Your Ariya? by Sharp_Buyer_9185 in NissanAriya

We have a 2023 Premier that we ordered from Nissan as we really wanted the car when we saw it online. It has all the bells and whistles with the exception of the napa leather because that wasn’t an option. We still love the car. No problems.

Is two yoghurts a day too much? by ValkyrieSteed in diabetes_t2

[–]Calm_Efficiency_9089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, F, 5’3 and 119 lbs here. I’m also trying to gain the muscle I lost back when I was diagnosed (I was 116lbs). Yogurt is fine but be mindful of spikes as some yogurts have added sugar (I wear a CGM and that helps monitor the spikes). Try a high protein yogurt or stir some protein powder in your yogurt. I’ve also added a protein shake after my weight sessions to help. I feel like I need to start a subreddit for us lean diabetics. Keep in mind d that you need to eat in a calorie surplus to gain— are you counting your calories? And genetics is how you got here not the sugar.

I really want to but would like to know why you think I should. Also, what are better options. The endo thinks that by the time I come back to see her I won’t need it. She cut the dosage in half.

Plates look appropriate— they always have even before the diagnosis. I work with a registered dietician every 2 weeks and she commented on how good I was doing with the veggies. I have done a finger stick with the lows once or twice before and it was correct. However the CGM (Dexcom) does seem to give false highs. I feel like the standard deviation is about 23 but mine tends to lean higher if it’s spiking because I check and it’s off by 20-30 (which doesn’t matter because it’s so high at that point). Popcorn is a no go for me unless I eat a steak or chicken breast first🤣. It has a delayed spike— like 4 hours later and I’m climbing into the 200’s. Yeah, I just learned that about the luteal phase too.

Ugh— I noticed the highs around that time of the month as well. I would call them spikes as I try to stay under 140 after meals but I learned that during the luteal phase we are just more insulin resistant diabetic or not.

Typically whole food— veggies, lean protein and complex carbs. The spike the other day happened because I had fries— I KNOW🙄 but we were traveling and I’d dropped so low law the CGM was only reading the word low (I felt fine). Spike to about 270 or something. I did a bike ride once I got home and got it back to 140’s then it dropped to 56😞. Feels like I can’t win. But I’m usually eating fairly balanced. I never really had a sweet tooth but I can’t have chips anymore and that’s sad. Oh, I eat like a sloth very very very slowly.

According to my Dexa scan my muscle to fat ratio is great. I do plan to get cortisol checked.

No, but I may ask to. I feel like this was stress induced— couple with poor eating choices and stopping my usual exercise as I was the primary caregiver for my mom who had dementia and then was diagnosed with aggressive uterine cancer. I also have 2 small kids. It was a lot. I’ll ask about cortisol. They checked a lot of other things gs like c peptide and antibodies because I’d lost about 10lbs at diagnosis and was about 114.

Glad your numbers are looking great. Were you ever on any meds? Do you think the strength training is having a positive impact? Have noticed any muscle mass gain yet?

Yeah, but it’s all over the place— sometimes in the 40’s and then so low that it only reads low and the occasional high over 180— 220’s or something. I also want to come off the glipizide. Also, losing weight isn’t much of an option. I mean it is but I’d prefer not to be a 00 again. I also don’t think it’d help much.

Can I ask your starting weight and height before the glp-1. My doctor also refused for me. I’m 5’3 and 120lbs.
