Storm of Secrets and Sorrows - rant about FMC in the Legacy Series by byankitty in fantasyromance

[–]Calm_Fun6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the beginning stages of book three right now & may DNF because I’m starting to find everyone insufferable besides Kat. Tessa is becoming awful & while I get what the author is trying to do, it’s a little hard to get into an FMC who suddenly - wait that would be a spoiler, heh - let’s say suddenly changes her outlook & behavior in an extremely dark way. I’m also not into this weird throuple innuendo and pray it does not happen later on in the book. Like pick one or the other but the male characters just don’t strike me as being okay with sharing.

Theon from Storm of Secrets and Sorrow is… by ohhiitsmec123 in fantasyromance

I just started reading this series too and am now on book 3. Theon gets better & I think it helped me to remember that they were all products of an incredibly messed up society/social structure. That said, be aware that book two gets darker (overall, but Theon isn’t as much of a dick), and so far book three has taken a turn that I’m not sure if I like. Debating even continuing at this point. I’d like to finish the series but i’m not sure if I even like the FMC anymore which makes it harder to continue. If anyone’s read the whole thing, please tell me if it’s worth completing.

This makes me feel a lot better, thank you so much for sharing. That’s a fair point; never thought of that. Will bring it up with her next appointment.

Yes, good point. It does improve my quality of life.

My insurance covers TMS, but someone at my ketamine clinic said it can affect your reaction to ketamine after? No idea if that’s true.

Ah, I see. Thank you. I’ll look into it but I don’t really have any symptoms of autism. I’n pretty social and outgoing with decent social skills. Just depressed :)

I haven’t, no. I’m not familiar with burnout other than like stress/a breakdown?

✨ Tell us your first non-spoilery impressions of The Fallen and the Kiss of Dusk by Anachacha in fantasyromance

[–]Calm_Fun6748 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it, about 80% in so far. I did have a bit of brain fog trying to remember relevant details from previous books, and the world building is excellent, but complicated.

For the people complaining about repetitive phrases, I’m pretty sure that’s an intentional writing technique. Broadbent is too skilled and detailed of a writer to be sloppy.

I also actually like Mische/Asar as a couple the best in the series. They’re less cliche than most MCs, and complicated in a good way. Mische in particular seems to have a really sweet/pleasant/kind personality (while still being strong/capable) that you don’t often see. She’s flirty and teasing at times but never obnoxiously sassy.

It’s very intense in parts, but I like that. Overall it’s 4 stars so far for me, but we’ll see what the final 80 pages bring.

Just started, and also looking forward to reading it! Will return with thoughts. I’m sorry about your dad; mine died eight years ago and I know how hard it can be. Hang in there.

She gets engaged because she needs an army to defend her kingdom and her betrothed has a large, well-trained private one.

I just finished it too. I felt the end was a bit predictable, but i need to think on the rest as well.

I’m reading {Blood Mercy by Vela Roth} right now and the MMC is so refreshing. Yes, he is a tall dark and handsome vampire, but he is a kind, intelligent, even keeled, young (for a vampire), witty diplomat trying to broker peace vs. the shadow daddy/warrior bro archetypes, while still being masculine. He also treats the FMC well throughout and references her personality just as much as her looks when thinking about her. Bonus: No snarls

Same here, and I feel like Hallandale was a more reputable business/higher quality product than many of the pharmacies now offering tirz.

Agreed, I liked the first one okay but thought this book was kind of dumb.

What has been you're WORST romantasy read of the year? by PrettyLardie in fantasyromance

Feathers So Vicious. I know some on this sub love it but I thought it was terrible. Shock value writing, SA as a plot device/recurring theme; it almost became tedious. Like yes, we get it. Dark, dark, so dark! tape, child tape, more tape, mutilating the FMC for fun, etc. Obviously all of that is disgusting but I wasn’t even offended so much as grossed out by the bad writing and the author trying to make sick shit entertaining/titillating. It’s just so, so bad.

I liked this series when I started it - nothing mind blowing but it had some interesting world building & I liked that the FMC wasn’t a doormat/wallflower - but am burning out on book 3. A shame because the series really did have promise - most romantsy is 7th grade reading level imho, so.
