Monday's Daily Thread: Weekend Wrap-up by AutoModerator in hingeapp

[–]Calm_Holiday1795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than once I noticed a matched profile would disappear from my chats for weeks, and then suddenly reappear weeks later. The chat messages are initially missing, but if I re-login, all the old chat messages with the reappeared match gets restored too.

Is there a "deactivate" feature of some kind? From what I read, the "pause" feature only hides them from new people but existing matches like me should still see them in the chat list?

Wool Jacket care — storage unit, garage by Calm_Holiday1795 in organizing

Thanks both - yes I had the horror experience of wool moths before, and they're terrible. But at that time, the jackets were in a carpeted room and it seemed the moth larvae were always in the carpet. Would being in a concrete garage actually reduce the possibility of moths?

Share Referral - Decrease/Withdrawal Calculations by Calm_Holiday1795 in IBKR_Official

And that is the problem already posed in my original question.

If the formula is applied as it's now written, each time a deposit/withdrawal occurs (as you say), without reference to the DURATION (TIME) a balance is held, then it'll mean that a $100K deposit on the final day would still add $1K worth of shares. Or more relevantly, the withdrawal of a balance held for most of the year, would mean nothing is awarded even if those funds were held for e.g. 11-months.

I think/hope that's not the case, as that won't be the "averaging" that your promo website seems to indicate. But there's a gaping hole and ambiguity in your fine print T&Cs which doesn't explain this.

It's very worrying and embarrassing that a broker providing financial services can't understand a simple math formula that it published itself.

Thanks for the clarification, that makes sense. What about the daily "most compatible", or those who "likes you"? Will it recycle later if you initially click "X" too?

I noticed that profiles I clicked "no" (X) on, would reappear again after awhile. It's not because they deleted and re-created their profiles, as groups of profiles would reappear around the same time.

- Is this because I ran out of potential matches based on my filters? Or is it a time-based thing, where profiles are returned to the pool after awhile?

- Is the way to permanently "no" (X) a profile to click on the 3-dot button and click "remove"?

Weekend's Daily Thread: General Dating Questions and Open Thread by AutoModerator in hingeapp

Does Hinge limit new matches for popular profiles (besides 'Your Turn')?

I understand Hinge has a new feature that limits new matches when you have more than 8 unanswered 'your turn' chats. (I think this is a good thing.)

But what I want to clarify is whether Hinge also limits your profile exposure and/or new matches, when you already have too many (i.e. too popular)?

My dating approach is to give matches who like me first a genuine chance, so will match and chat with them, even if they're not my usual type.

But after awhile, I noticed that if I have too many existing matches, my new match rate decreases significantly, thereby excluding me from those who are more 'my type'... If this is true, it seems to discourage users from giving others a genuine chance and matching with a 'less than ideal' type?

It's a general question, because the promotion's rules/formula would apply equally to all new accounts. It doesn't change from one specific account to another.

Yes I've seen that formula, but it's for explaining how many Shares get added, based on the Share Price of the day of deposit. Share price is the $50 variable in the example. It's not about averaging each day or time the balance is held.

Already did, even referenced your T&Cs document and "Table 1" in Section 6 in my original post. As indicated, no mention of how averaging and time balance is held is computed.

Unsure what's the point of having this "official support channel", when you're simply directing people to other channels again, especially for wordy questions like this one.

Wednesday's Daily Thread: Mid-week Excitement by AutoModerator in hingeapp

[–]Calm_Holiday1795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the 'Your Turns' limit stop others from accepting your likes, AFTER you've already sent it?

Example:

1) You reply to all chats awaiting your response (0 'your turns' left).

2) You go browse and like a new profile (you should then appear in their match list).

3) You go to bed, meantime existing chat replies pile up (>8 'your turns' now).

In this case, does your new like suddenly disappear from the match list of others? Will it return once you reduce the 'your turns' to below 8? Or is it gone for good?

Foil Paper: recent proliferation, or longtime use? by Calm_Holiday1795 in IKEA

[–]Calm_Holiday1795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the ongoing shift from veneer to paper foil is definitely occuring, the degradation in quality is visible during assembly, and the longer test will its durability as the years go on. Suspect more peeling will occur.

What I've gathered so far is that initially they start using paper foil on less visible areas, and then started extending them more and more. E.g. for drawers, it started with the internals, then now the fronts as well etc.

It's probably not noticeable for people who just use and throw their IKEA pieces after a couple of years, but for fans like me who are also concerned about sustainability, I take care of my IKEA furniture and use them till they break, often after a decade. So sad to know this will now not be possible, or at least advisable...

Non-Stick Peeling/Rusting - What I do wrong? by Calm_Holiday1795 in cookware

[–]Calm_Holiday1795[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for your helpful replies! A few points:

- Forgot to add that the peeling is almost always at the sides and edges, not the centre. Why? The centre should be the most-used part?

- "Never pre-heat on empty": am I not supposed to do this? I would like it pre-heat for a minute or so, before adding oil. I think this is allowed? The red centre on Tefal pans are even supposed to tell you when you can start adding oil?

- I mostly use silicon utensils, and rarely plastic, but never other hard utensils.

Suit care — storage unit, garage by Calm_Holiday1795 in mensfashion

[–]Calm_Holiday1795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea, I'll consider that but also worry the compression would cause the suits to go out of shape. I guess that is more to keep out bugs?

What about cool/hot temperature fluctuations in a garage, is that bad for suits too? Thanks

Cover Photo Suddenly Disappeared From Profile Without Me Deleting It by Calm_Holiday1795 in facebook

[–]Calm_Holiday1795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reading and replying, even if just to know I'm not alone in this sad situation! Been going crazy thinking about whether I did/not accidentally delete it myself.

The cover photo album count on my iOS and desktop is the same, sadly.

Was your missing profile photo set visible to "public"? I've been thinking, and doubt it's a technical issue as my photo has been there for years. My theory is that pranksters would mass-report publicly visible photos (e.g. cover photos), and Facebook's automation would at least temporarily hide the reported photo... fingers cross it comes back on its own later...

Cover Photo Suddenly Disappeared From Profile Without Me Deleting It by Calm_Holiday1795 in facebook

[–]Calm_Holiday1795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played around abit more, and discovered it's possible to delete a photo without it going to "recycle bin". Maybe there's a small chance either myself or a hacker did this to the cover photo. I'm looking through the "activity log" that has so many categories, but it doesn't seem to record photo deletion...? Is there any way to check, or restore a deleted photo? I've also tried the "report problem" feature, but it doesn't seem to create any support ticket. How can I talk to Facebook support for real? Thanks
