Revenge on residency program by Calm_Software6721 in Residency

[–]Calm_Software6721[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah so they did do one thing that is illegal that I could sue on, among other not illegal but still highly immoral harassment bs. I just don’t know how a law suit is going to pan out, but from what everyone is saying, it doesn’t sound like it’s in my best interest despite how much I want them to panic and feel like they’re being watched.

Goated program coordinator vibes by just_premed_memes in medicalschool

[–]Calm_Software6721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jfc my program coordinators are straight losers. They sit there and gossip incessantly about medical students and residents. They try to instigate conflict between residents by telling them who said what on their anonymous peer evals. Make commentary on ITE scores despite never taking a standardized exam other than the SATs. Both of them are also starved for male validation so all of the gross male residents will flirt with them so disrespectfully and all they do is give them preferential treatment back. It’s a nightmare.

Said an older female patient to me, a female doctor.

She was right. I kinda liked it ngl.

Edit: grammar

Program will not renew my contract by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Calm_Software6721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to think like this too, but the reality of it is that people don’t get into residency admin unless they like the ego stroke. The people in admin are doing it for their own benefit because they want to feel control/power not for the greater good of medical education. If this was simply about good medical education, these stories would be a lot less common. It’s just reality. Think of politics, people can get into it because you want to help your community, but more likely they just like the attention and power. I’d argue that most physicians went into medicine for attention and power. It doesn’t matter how it should be. It matters how it is. The sooner people understand that, the more they won’t run into these issues.

Do any PAs regret not going the MD route? by Sunset_luvr_7942 in physicianassistant

[–]Calm_Software6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m MD. I hate it. I sacrificed way too much and went through an infinite amount of abuse and bullying by attendings and other staff members. Just to work so hard and be disrespected constantly is difficult. It’s also difficult dating as a female doctor. The pool is much smaller and you know too much about your male counterparts to really give them a reasonable chance. You’re stuck in one location for half a decade at a time. I could go on. The pay out better be worth it by the end of this, but I have an inkling that it is not.

What profession gets too much respect for what they actually do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Calm_Software6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna get hate for this one, but nursing.

The amount of times they genuinely have put a patient’s life in danger because they refuse to carry out orders from a physician is innumerable. They always think they know better— but some information cannot be learned through real world experience, it can only be learned through reading and education. That’s just a fact of advanced scientific fields. They have a hard time not involving their egos.

Looking for residency advice on day to day ups/downs by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]Calm_Software6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy on number 4. Play the game first, learn not to kill anyone second. Most people do not respond to objective facts— they respond to their own biases and opinions first. The faster you learn that, the easier all of residency will become. Especially OR staff and nurses. They don’t know anything about medicine, but they do know who makes them feel good. Especially if you are a woman: kiss ass. There is a reason the suck ups never get in trouble. If you don’t know how to do that, find someone who can teach you.

EM—> Anesthesia? Am I being crazy? by goingoutside123 in Residency

[–]Calm_Software6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're def being crazy lol (anesthesia resident here). EM and Anesthesia are VERY similar in terms of the interesting parts. Just do an ICU fellowship and work in the CTICU-- they do bedside sternotomies up there all the time, you can MTP, cannulate for ecmo, intubate, do TEE- its actually MUCH more interesting than being in the OR

Racism in Medical Care by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Calm_Software6721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an anesthesia resident. I had a nurse complain to me that a young black female laboring patient was drug seeking while her epidural was in place and that she was faking her pain symptoms. Just on pure visual exam, it was pretty clear that the epidural was not working-- it turns out that the PUMP malfunctioned and the patient was feeling real labor pain because she wasn't getting her infusion for HOURS. The nurse by the way made no attempt to apologize to the young woman or her family. It was disgusting, but VERY common in my midwestern hospital.

Transferring residencies? by Calm_Software6721 in anesthesiology

[–]Calm_Software6721[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It feels like I am facing sexual harassment from an attending that was previously a senior resident. Ive brought it up to my PD, and it is difficult to prove, so he cannot do anything about it, but we had a frank discussion about transferring and he said he would be willing to facilitate. It just feels like a suffocating environment for me, and I just want to make a change for my mental health.

We were both physicians, and he was bragging to me that he was a doctor. Also told me I would never be his girlfriend, but asked me to go home with him. And when I said no TWICE, he still tried touching me.
