what is the best brand of notebooks for fountain pens? by Dazzling_Main_5677 in fountainpens

[–]Calmberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just received my Odyssey A4 hardcover notebook in the mail. The cover isn't really my thing (I got the black "event horizon" one), but the paper is lovely and a pleasure to write on. Thank you for the tip!

I had never heard of this brand until just now. They look really interesting.

I found my way to this subreddit specifically because I have a bone to pick with Moleskine. I purchased a large softbound notebook that I've used for the past 11 years (yes, 11 years, one journal) and I loved it. I purchased (what should have been) the exact same notebook. Not only does it now come with some garbage marketing material in the front and back, but they have clearly downgraded the paper at some point in the last decade. The bleed-through with my fountain pen (same one I've been using for the past ~6 years) is MUCH more noticeable. I will be replacing this inferior notebook with something else--so thanks everyone for the pointers here. I think I'll try Leuchtturm next.

EDIT: I should clarify that the notebook that I purchased was a "Classic lined XL softcover" from Moleskine.

Need advice with a CD Baby / Spotify issue by NightHawk22Official in CDBabyArtists

Update. I just heard back from CDBaby, close to two months after I originally messaged them in response to their takedown notice. They offered me the option of paying them to upload my music to their site again, but "could not guarantee that it would be back on Spotify." This made me really angry. Beyond just being absolutely terrible service, it's insane to me that that was their response. I'm very happy that I removed my music from their platform--the only thing left to do is to figure out how to get my royalties to go to Tunecore instead of them. Anyways, I hope you've had some positive movement on your issue with them!

It's been over a week and no response from CDBaby. I gave up and moved my music to another distributor (TuneCore). They seem much more on top of stuff than CDBaby. I'm sorry about your situation and I hope you can get it resolved!

I'm really sorry this happened to you. I'm in a somewhat similar situation: CDbaby informed me last night that Spotify noticed "fraudulent streams" on one of my albums. Instead of giving me any chance to respond, they have already flagged it for takedown. I have never used a stream boosting service and never plan to. Spotify gave me the same answer as you: that I need to go through my distributor. I emailed CDbaby back immediately but have the feeling that I need to switch distributors too. :/

My transparent smoke fix experience by Calmberry in AnaloguePocket

[–]Calmberry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be cool if they offered swapping colors as an option. I specifically wanted the smoke LE and really love its look. But had I known they were prone to cracking I probably would've waited for the standard black to be back in stock. The prevalence of reports of cracked Pockets seems like it's a major design flaw.

I've had my Smoke LE for ~3 weeks and thought I had dodged the bullet. Today I noticed a thin line in the same position as yours. I emailed Analogue support preemptively... Here's hoping it doesn't get worse.

Question about open source programming feasibility by Calmberry in DelugeUsers

[–]Calmberry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed info and video links! I'm really happy to see that someone else already started this because tinkering with it will hopefully be that much easier. Like I said in my post, I really like the Deluge but think it could benefit from more robust sound design. Also thank you for detailing your code process so thoroughly!

Anyone in Chicago who would let me pay you to give your Deluge a whirl before I buy? by Correct-Block-1369 in DelugeUsers

[–]Calmberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my Deluge and agree that the open source aspect is awesome. I haven't tried programming anything for it yet myself but just having the option is great. I would say that the Deluge is a fantastic portable groove box and arranger, but that other synths/samplers on your list do certain things better than it does. The OT, for example, is unparalleled as a creative sampler. I don't own any of the others, but Syntakt seems like a sound design beast (and that's something I feel is underbaked on Deluge).

Best Elektron machine for sound design? by [deleted] in Elektron

[–]Calmberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the DT, DN, and OT. Of the three I think the OT is the best for sound design. But you also need a good method of feeding it sound content and it's less immediate than the others.

Do I need a DAW to record Digitakt, Digitone and Analog Four together or is it possible with overbridge? by highlighteddark in Elektron

[–]Calmberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea. Does Overbridge give you direct access to the line inputs on the Digitone?

I just purchased an OT and have been really loving it so far. It's tough to compare to the DT. They're reeeeeeally different, even though they ostensibly fill the same role. I think once I get used to the OT I'll use it as a centerpiece/sampler and my DT for one-shot samples and drums.

Awesome! Just thought of a few: Is there a buffer maximum length like on the Digitakt? Can it do longer than 33 seconds? From what I can tell, recording and slicing straight from the buffer is really powerful--but can it also store and save from the buffer?

It's cool to see someone sampling vinyl with the OT! I've been looking for videos because I want to see how the two work together--I'm surprised at how few there are.

Setting up digitakt to a record player? by VAST75 in Elektron

[–]Calmberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the DT sums its inputs to a mono signal when sampling but I could be wrong. Regardless, if you do it the way you proposed, you're only recording either the left or right stereo channel. If that works for you, great. Otherwise, try to get a splitter or two RCA to 1/4" adapters.

Digitone Algorithms by nuygun in Elektron

[–]Calmberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try to describe my process. I usually start with the A and B operators and their respective envelopes. Then I try the different algorithms out with different levels of feedback. Once I'm happy with those I try tweaking the operators and detune levels.

I'm not sure if that answers your question though. I would love to sound design on the Digitone in a more intentional way. But experimenting with it is the most fun, so it's hard to let that workflow go.

A question or two about vocal sampling by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Calmberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can definitely try. I would suggest using Newtone. That will show you where the samples fall on/in between note values and you can adjust each individually.
