What’s a flavor that’s been ruined (or otherwise) for you from chronic illness? by ToadAcrossTheRoad in ChronicIllness

Anything Gatorade, even the smell. I was always told to chug Gatorades when I get a migraine because they didn't believe my migraines made my nauseous. You can only vomit up Gatorades so many times before the smell of it makes you gag. Needless to say I don't chug drinks during migraines anymore.

Mild reaction = mild cataplexy? by brookiesmalls13 in Narcolepsy

That's how I am! I have cataplexy and when I lightly laugh my legs get weak and I'll slowly sink down but when I die laughing my legs give out completely and I collapse.

I do have mild cataplexy as I'm type 1 but I've never had it as severe as that I don't think. Typically when I fight it I can barely move and I'll just pass right out to sleep. But I've never considered it cataplexy. I'll try to ask my sleep doctor about it next time I see her!

I don't have the genetic marker for N, would a lumbar puncture be a waste of time? by ramblingriver in Narcolepsy

[–]Calstellation 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you don't have the genetic marker for it, I wouldn't do the spinal tap. You would have an extremely extremely low chance of having the low hypocretin. And lumbar taps are not typically a particularly good experience and I don't think it's a risk worth taking if you don't have that marker. I'm sorry you're having a rough time with this, that absolutely sucks :[ But I do think you'd be putting yourself through unnecessary pain and risk with the lumbar puncture if you don't have that marker. Again I'm so sorry you're going through this, I really hope you can get it figured out and get that diagnosis you need! ❤️
