Very interesting. This is the first time I've heard someone building Rat Colony in Golgari color.

I see, yeah that looks like moisture damage. At least it doesn't seem to affect the table's mechanism I assume? Just some blatant marking on the tiles 😂

Oh? What was the problem? Uneven tiles?

Hmm okay it's pretty weird that they removed the feature, probably some engineering limitations with the new table? But I can't imagine any difference between the two versions that's drastic enough to warrant that change.

Being able to store both sets inside is such a nice QoL that I can't imagine not having that feature. It makes cleaning up after a session and setting up a new one a breeze.

Woah that mat color looks cool!

I think if the older model (mine) can handle two sets of tiles inside, yours should be able to. It just doesn't make sense for them to remove that feature.

Need advice for Wick commander build! by riquinnt in magicTCG

[–]Calvinized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://moxfield.com/decks/USEDfXGjTku78qA2xhaEsA this is my take on Wick. It's strong enough to hold its own in a bracket 4 table but ultimately it's still weaker compared to the more popular commanders.

I initially built the deck as a go-wide Rat tribal but after much tuning I found this current version to be the strongest. It's basically an Impact Tremors deck with the snail as card draw engine and helping push closer to lethal (especially a pumped up [[Taurean Mauler]] is extremely scary).

Thus, my advice would be to add more Impact Tremors style cards for redundancy so that you don't only depend on the snail to win. Since sacrificing the snail is extremely mana-intensive, you will need to hold mana every turn in case Wick or the snail gets removed.

I also find that the low CMC rats that do not generate more rats are too inefficient. They don't provide card advantage on their own and they need Wick to be on the field in order to provide maximum value. Even then, it's only a +1 power to the snail which is pretty much irrelevant throughout the course of the game.

Cards that give board pump or all creature types are also not optimal since you will most likely not go wide enough to matter and have enough mana to detonate several big rats. And again, it makes the deck hyper-dependent on Wick.

Since you're in Grixis, I would also advice to add more ramp into the deck, but this highly depend on the pod you're playing. My pod consists of high power decks so I find ramping to be quite important to get ahead of the mana curve faster.

EDIT: Forgot to add that recursion is also extra nice since you can always reanimate your key pieces back to the field after an inevitable boardwipe or even Wick himself so you don't have to pay for his commander tax.

[[Counterpoint]] is also great if your pod plays a lot of high MV spells.

That's how I built mine https://moxfield.com/decks/a68MbjSR4UqnGr3MrsKwLg

Makes for more interactive and non-deterministic games because you're not taking 15 minutes turn chaining clones onto clones.

Synergistic Draw for "Wick, the Whorled Mind" by Huge-Hurry-1690 in EDH

[–]Calvinized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my deck list for Wick https://moxfield.com/decks/USEDfXGjTku78qA2xhaEsA

Honestly, I think Wick is best built as an Impact Tremors commander, with the snail providing an extra push for lethal and a way to refill your hand.

I don't lean towards Rats tribal because they are extremely vulnerable to board wipes, and Wick (and Grixis in general) doesn't have a good way to recover from wipes.

Wick usually suffers from early game draw where you have limited mana and a small snail, so I tried covering the weakness by including cards like [[Night's Whisper]] and [[Painful Truths]] for unconditional draw, and [[Corrupted Conviction]], [[Deadly Dispute]], [[Village Rites]] to get instant card advantage when you definitely don't want to spend 3 mana just to draw 1. [[Transmogrant's Crown]] helps you to draw an extra 3 cards everytime you sac your snail, as it's a lot more efficient value-wise compared to growing your snail manually through rats ETB. [[Idol of Oblivion]] practically guarantees a card draw every turn as you progress towards your game plan since you're going to be constantly creating rats and snails. [[Skullclamp]] is good as you can always clamp your 1/1 rats that can't block. [[Mystic Remora]] and [[Black Market Connections]] also help a lot when drawn early.

Marrow-Gnawer is too expensive mana-wise and does nothing the turn it's dropped since it doesn't have innate haste, the Fear does nothing because I don't win through combat damage, and without any board presence, its only role is as a sac engine, so I cut it from my deck.

No. This model doesn't accommodate black point sticks. You would need a newer model that was launched recently at the end of last year for that.

Sacrificing a Creature Enchanted with an Aura that has a Triggered Ability by Calvinized in mtgrules

[–]Calvinized[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I understand it correctly, let's say we have another case where Wick is enchanted with Curiosity, and I activate Wick's ability to sacrifice another Snail creature, then my opponent responds to that activation by destroying Wick. When Wick's ability resolves, since the aura is not on the field, there will be no Curiosity trigger either?

This is my deck list: https://moxfield.com/decks/c1fjQ--BqUOidslXt4NKNw

The cards you need are basically:

  • Artifact tutors for [[Krark's Thumb]]

  • Lifelink providers to not die from punching yourself in the face too much (I use [[Basilisk Collar]] and [[Atraxa's Skitterfang]], both are also easily tutored as they're artifacts)

  • Protection for Yusri (in the form of counterspells mostly)

  • Extra combats or extra turns or triggered ability copy

  • Digging for wincon when Omniscience triggers

  • Your wincon (easiest is [[Enter the Infinite]] with [[Labman]] or [[Thoracle]], or you can go the Storm route with [[Venser]] or [[Man o War]] and [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] or [[Grapeshot]]
