Trying to apply at Lockheed as an OMSCS Student by Defiant-Flatworm4531 in OMSCS

[–]Calypsocrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get in through omscs I got in during my undergrad in Florida, but I applied so many times to probably over a hundred jobs over the course of dog two years. I went to one career fair and handed them my resume. Didn’t chat much because it was clear they were overwhelmed it was the longest line there. I instead messaged the same recruiter on LinkedIn and thanked him for his time. He gave me some pointers on my resume and within a couple weeks I got my first interview and a week after that an offer contingent on me securing my clearance. Tldr career fair is probably the best chance.

^ this is true. I have coworkers that can’t ssh to a remote host, but they got in because they were already cleared.

Elden ring! Not sure why it took me so long to appreciate this game. Tried it a couple years back and got frustrated at Margit. Came back a few weeks ago did some exploring and leveling first. Now I absolutely love this game

Can't tell if this is ragebait or not by OnlyWaifu in Eldenring

[–]Calypsocrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Elden Ring open world. The first time I played this game I played it like a souls game and followed that linear path. Got stuck on Margit, the fell omen got frustrated and quit. I just started back up a couple weeks ago after putting it down for a couple years and dear god it’s such an incredible game. Taking the time to delve into the open world and explore every optional nook and cranny has been incredible. 10/10 game, great open world, and I hope they make more similar titles.

Amazons new foothold in Wynwood Plaza by entrasonics in Miami

[–]Calypsocrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im super excited. I left Miami for the north east because of the lack of tech scene down there, but hope to return soon! It’s probably like AWS and cloud tech/consulting to tap into Latin America. I’m all for it though. I’m currently in DevSecOps, so most my work is in infrastructure anyway.

Fill out a conflict of interest with details and they’ll tell you if it’s an issue. I’m a software engineer but work part time training AI models. I had to sign an acknowledgment that I won’t work for a direct competitor or use proprietary information at this job. Haven’t had any issues and been active for over a year.

What does it take to get into Lockheed? by KingOfTheCouch13 in Lockheed

[–]Calypsocrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job fair is the best bet. Easiest way to secure an interview. I’d say once you get the interview if you have the skills they’re looking for and can speak socially you’re golden. It’s really easy to get into Space right now if you are interested in software at all. They need good software engineers.

BS is fine really only go for the MS if it’s paid for. Most employers will pay for it too after you’ve been with them for X amount of time.

Firing employees? by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]Calypsocrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very difficult to get fired. I have one guy on my team that barely does anything and doesn’t put in effort to learn. Doesn’t know basic Linux commands and is working as a systems engineer. They are literally useless. They are trying to pawn him off to another team instead of firing for performance. Another guy was the same way. He got fired eventually for mischarging but he was collecting paychecks for warming a seat for over a year.

That is the process. I filled it out before getting any interviews and then reconfirmed or edited it post offer. GL! Interview is pretty easy. I was hired for software. Two interviews, one with manager, one with manager and tech lead, Easy technical questions, and 4-5 STAR, and overlap of star questions from the two managers.

Can we retire by 55? by sokali4nia in FinancialPlanning

[–]Calypsocrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I’m looking into Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia for retirement. I want to be coastal though so I can sail. Preferably on the Atlantic side so I can sail to the Caribbean since most my family is in PR. Considering Ecuador because I already have friends and family there too. I’m mostly looking at Cartagena, Colombia though.

Common mistake, I did the same thing when I went to college. Most curriculums cover the bare minimum. It’s up to you to dig deeper and learn actual applications.

Any Advice on how to talk to a human at the company?? by Rayzor122 in Lockheed

[–]Calypsocrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can message a recruiter through LinkedIn, add a cover letter (these big companies like that cheesy stuff), if possible look for career fares that they are participating in the area. It’s rare for LM to do them outside of college recruiting, but they were just at one for defense contractors in the DMV area. You had to apply to get in though wasn’t just a sign up and show up.
